Lactic Acid 80%, 1 kg

Where Lactic Acid 80% Makes the Biggest Difference Across Industries

Lactic acid is an organic alpha-hydroxy acid produced through the fermentation of sugars by lactic bacteria, which makes it one of the most versatile reagents used well beyond skincare formulations. Food processing, leather tanning, textile treatment, agriculture, and household cleaning all rely on this acid for very different reasons. This 1 kg concentrate belongs to the Acids, Salts, Alcohols, and Alkalis section, which brings together reagents used for pH adjustment, preservation, and chemical processing of raw materials.

In food production, lactic acid works as an acidity regulator and natural preservative in cheese making, fermented dairy products, marinades, sauces, and soft drinks, suppressing unwanted microbial growth without altering flavor drastically. Leather manufacturers use it during pickling and tanning stages, where it helps control signs of fatigue of collagen fibers and prepares hides for further processing. The textile industry applies it for mordanting and dyeing fabrics, while agriculture relies on lactic acid during silage fermentation to stabilize green forage and prevent spoilage during long-term storage.

Another major application area is household chemistry and industrial descaling. Lactic acid effectively dissolves carbonate deposits and limescale, which is why it appears in cleaning formulas for food equipment, kettles, and water heaters. In skincare, it is recognized as a gentle alpha-hydroxy acid used in peels, toners, and hydrating serums, since it exfoliates the skin surface while simultaneously helping retain moisture in the upper layers.

Because the 80% concentrate is a strong acidic solution, it must be diluted with water before being introduced into any formulation. In cosmetic emulsions it is typically added to the water phase during the cool-down stage, at a temperature of 40-60 degrees Celsius, at a dosage of 1 to 5 percent of the total batch weight, with pH adjusted afterward using an alkaline agent if needed. Food-grade and technical applications follow dosage guidelines specific to each production process.

Lactic acid pairs well with other reagents from the acids and salts category. For gentler exfoliating blends it is often combined with Citric Acid, producing a more balanced peel with reduced irritation. In industrial metal etching processes it is used alongside Nitric Acid, while specialized cleaning formulations designed to remove stubborn mineral scale often pair it with Oxalic Acid.

Store the concentrate in a tightly sealed, chemically resistant container in a cool location away from alkalis, oxidizers, and direct sunlight. The 1 kg pack size suits small production workshops, laboratories, small-batch cosmetic studios, and food businesses that need enough volume for test runs and short production cycles without committing to industrial-scale drums.

Fermented Vegetable Marinade Base

Water 900 ml

Lactic Acid 80% 15 ml

Salt 20 g

Sugar 10 g

Dissolve the salt and sugar in warm water until fully clear, then let the solution cool to room temperature before adding the lactic acid and stirring thoroughly. Pour the finished brine over cleaned vegetables in a sterilized jar, seal tightly, and store in a cool place for at least three days before checking the flavor and refrigerating for longer-term storage.
