Citric Acid 1 kg

Citric Acid 1 kg

Why Bulk Citric Acid Powers Food, Household, and Cosmetic Manufacturing

Citric acid supplied in a 1 kg pack is one of the most globally demanded industrial ingredients, with applications reaching far beyond kitchen use. Produced through fermentation of sugars, this organic acid is manufactured in hundreds of thousands of tons annually to serve the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and household chemical industries. This packaging size fits studio-scale production and small workshops that need a reliable stock without frequent reordering. As part of the Acids, Salts, Alcohols, and Alkalis category, this ingredient functions simultaneously as a pH regulator, preservative, and chelating agent.

The largest share of worldwide citric acid consumption belongs to the food industry, where it acts as a preservative, antioxidant, and flavor regulator in beverages, confectionery, canned fruits and vegetables, and jams, where it works alongside pectin as a gelling catalyst. In household chemicals, the acid is fundamental to descaling products, bathroom cleaning gels, dishwasher tablets, and laundry detergents, since it binds calcium and magnesium ions effectively, softening water and dissolving limescale deposits. In cosmetic manufacturing, citric acid is widely used to adjust the acidity of emulsions, shampoos, creams, and toners, and it also serves as a gentle exfoliant in skin renewal formulations.

In most formulations the acid is added at the final stage, after cooling the base mixture to no more than 40-45 degrees Celsius, since higher temperatures may cause partial instability of the active compound in the presence of certain ingredients. Standard dosage for pH adjustment in cosmetic emulsions ranges from 0.1 to 1 percent of the total product mass, while food preserves and beverages typically require between 0.3 and 2 percent depending on the recipe. Household descaling formulas can use concentrations up to 15-20 percent. The acid pairs well with other organic acids and amino compounds, such as glutamic acid, which enhances the hydrating properties of skin care formulations, and pyrrolidone carboxylic acid, often combined to build balanced natural moisturizing factor systems. When working alongside stronger acids like formic acid, separate storage and careful dosing are essential to avoid unwanted reactions in the final blend.

The product should be stored in an airtight container, in a dry room with low humidity, since the crystalline powder is hygroscopic and easily absorbs moisture from the air, leading to clumping. The optimal storage temperature is room temperature, avoiding sudden fluctuations and direct sunlight. Under proper conditions the shelf life of the raw material remains stable for an extended period, making the 1 kg package an economical choice for regular manufacturing cycles.

Homemade Descaling Spray for Kitchen and Bathroom Surfaces

Citric acid 100 g

Distilled water 500 ml

Baking soda 20 g

Dissolve the citric acid completely in warm water at around 40 degrees Celsius, stirring continuously until no crystals remain visible. Gradually add the baking soda in small portions, waiting for the foaming reaction to settle between additions. Transfer the finished solution into a spray bottle and apply it to limescale-affected surfaces, letting it sit for 15-20 minutes before rinsing thoroughly with clean water.
