Zinc Oxide Pharma Netherlands 20 g

What makes zinc oxide the reliable mineral shield in modern sun care

Pharmaceutical-grade zinc oxide from the Netherlands is a finely milled mineral powder used primarily as a broad-spectrum physical UV filter that reflects and scatters sunlight on the skin surface rather than absorbing it chemically. This is why the strongest demand for the ingredient comes from the category of sun protection components, where it serves as the core active in mineral creams, lotions, sticks and SPF emulsions for face, body and even baby-safe formulas. Because this grade is pharmaceutical in purity, it is also widely used outside decorative and skincare cosmetics - in soothing powders, diaper rash ointments, calamine-type pastes and other pharmacy-style skin preparations where fine particle consistency matters.

Beyond sun protection, zinc oxide is valued for its mild drying, mattifying and gently cleansing action, so formulators frequently add it to oily and blemish-prone skin products, tinted bases and mineral powders as a natural opacifier that gives coverage without a heavy, greasy film. In industrial chemistry it is also known as a rubber vulcanization activator, but for the pharmaceutical grade the main global demand remains concentrated in cosmetic and pharmacy formulations, where particle purity and consistency are essential.

When building a formula, zinc oxide pairs well with light plant oils and hydrating actives that balance the texture and density of the emulsion. To offset the slightly drying sensation that heavier mineral filter loads can create, formulators often blend in light water-dispersible oils such as Water-Soluble Avocado Oil, which improves spreadability and reduces any tight feeling on the skin. It combines nicely with Cucumber Seed Oil Unrefined, which lends a lightweight texture and a soothing effect after sun exposure. To boost hydration and support the skin barrier in summer formulas, many recipes also rely on REVIDRAT™, which helps counterbalance the drying tendency of the mineral filter.

Zinc oxide should be introduced at the cooling stage of an emulsion, at a temperature no higher than 35-40 degrees, since the powder does not dissolve but forms a suspension - no preheating is needed, though thorough dispersion under continuous stirring is essential to avoid clumping and achieve even distribution throughout the batch. A typical dosage for sun protection creams ranges from 10 to 25 grams per 100 grams of base depending on the desired protection factor, while drying powders and pastes may use a noticeably higher share. Store the powder in a dry, tightly sealed container away from moisture and direct sunlight to preserve its technical properties for the full shelf life.

The 20 gram size is convenient for home-scale trial batches of mineral creams, testing different filter concentrations before scaling up, and for small studios developing custom formulas for individual clients.

Cream base (emulsifying wax with oil) 68 g

Zinc Oxide Pharma Netherlands 9 g

Water-Soluble Avocado Oil 5 ml

Cucumber Seed Oil Unrefined 3 ml

REVIDRAT™ 1 g

Warm the cream base gently in a water bath to about 40 degrees, remove from heat and add the zinc oxide gradually in small portions, stirring vigorously until no lumps remain. Blend in the avocado oil and cucumber seed oil, mixing thoroughly until smooth. Finally, stir in the REVIDRAT™ pre-dissolved in distilled water, bringing the mixture to a uniform creamy consistency.
