A Versatile Carrier Oil for Skin and Hair Formulations in a One-Liter Format
Arugula oil is cold-pressed from the seeds of Eruca sativa, which preserves a rich concentration of unsaturated fatty acids, including oleic and erucic acid. This product belongs to the Liquid Basic Oils category, which brings together carrier oils for professional skincare, haircare and color cosmetics development. The 1 liter format suits small studios and manufacturers working with small to medium batches who need a dependable supply of raw material without moving to bulk industrial volumes.
The primary application of arugula oil lies in the production of skin and hair care products. It absorbs quickly, leaves no heavy film on the skin and is commonly used as a base in creams, lotions, serums, massage blends and after-sun care. In hair formulations the oil is added to masks, conditioners and leave-in serums to soften strands and add shine, particularly for dry or damaged hair. Beyond cosmetics, arugula oil is used in the production of nourishing and antioxidant additives for topical products, as well as in fragrance compositions as a carrier base that helps aromatic notes unfold gently.
When developing formulas, arugula oil pairs well with other carrier oils, enhancing their properties and improving the texture of the final product. Combined with Chamomile Oil, it creates soothing blends suitable for sensitive skin, while adding Coriander Oil enriches the composition with a light aromatic note and antioxidant support. For heavier textures, such as balms and nourishing creams, formulators often include Cashew Oil, which adds body and helps stabilize the emulsion.
In typical formulations arugula oil is introduced during the oil phase mixing stage, before the temperature exceeds 40-45 degrees Celsius, to keep the fatty acid structure intact. Recommended dosage in finished creams and lotions ranges from 5 to 15 percent of the total oil phase weight, while massage blends can use it undiluted or combined in equal parts with other oils. In hair care products the dosage may reach 10-20 percent depending on the desired texture.
Arugula oil should be stored in a tightly sealed container, in a cool dark place away from direct sunlight and heat sources, which slows oxidation and preserves the product's properties throughout its shelf life. Once opened, it is best used within a few months, minimizing air exposure each time the container is opened.
