Building a Long-Lasting Cream Base with ERCANOL M14 Emulsifying Complex
ERCANOL M14 is a self-emulsifying complex used to create stable oil-in-water emulsions for creams, lotions, body milk, and other liquid or semi-liquid cosmetic formulations. The 1 kg pack size makes it a practical choice for small cosmetic studios and independent labs that have already moved beyond single test batches into regular small and mid-scale production runs. This quantity allows manufacturers to lock in a consistent formula without frequent reordering of raw material. The product belongs to the broader category of emulsifiers, which includes various emulsion stabilizers used across cosmetic and related manufacturing sectors.
The main application area for ERCANOL M14 is skincare: face and body creams, hand emulsions, after-shave products, sun care, and nourishing formulations. The complex delivers a soft, stable texture that resists separation, holds water well within the oil phase, and gives the finished product a pleasant feel without a greasy residue. Beyond cosmetics, similar emulsifying systems are occasionally used in technical emulsions and household chemical formulations where stable mixing of water and oil phases without separation during storage is required.
ERCANOL M14 is introduced into the oil phase of the formula during the heating stage, typically at 70-75 degrees Celsius, together with other lipophilic ingredients such as oils, waxes, and silicones. Once fully melted, the oil phase is combined with the water phase, pre-heated to the same temperature, under continuous stirring, which produces a fine and durable emulsion. The standard working dosage ranges from 3 to 8 percent of the total formula weight depending on the desired thickness and stability of the final product. Exceeding this dosage can make the texture too heavy, so it is recommended to test the formula on a small batch before scaling up production.
The component pairs well with other stabilizers and thickeners, allowing fine-tuning of the final texture. Adding a small proportion of emulsifying wax increases the density of the cream and makes the emulsion more resistant to temperature fluctuations during storage. For a more natural, slightly firmer structure, formulators can introduce granulated bleached beeswax, which also adds a protective function for the skin. For formulas with higher requirements for foaming and gentle cleansing effect, combining with the surfactant ERCAMULS LF 10 V/FD extends the functionality of the finished product.
ERCANOL M14 should be stored in tightly closed packaging, in a dry place at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. When storage conditions are followed, the material retains stable working properties over a long period, which matters for manufacturers planning regular purchases of the same raw material batch.
Lightweight Hand and Body Lotion with ERCANOL M14
Distilled water 720 ml
ERCANOL M14 35 g
Sweet almond oil 55 ml
Shea butter 20 g
Glycerin 25 ml
Preservative 5 ml
Fragrance oil 3 ml
Heat the water and glycerin together in one container to 75 degrees Celsius. In a separate container, combine the almond oil, shea butter, and ERCANOL M14, heating to the same temperature until fully melted. Slowly pour the oil phase into the water phase while stirring continuously, and keep mixing as the blend cools to around 40 degrees. Add the preservative and fragrance oil, stir until uniform, and transfer the finished lotion into prepared containers.
