What makes creams stay smooth instead of separating over time
ERCANOL M14 is a complex emulsifier that binds the oil and water phases of a cosmetic formula into one stable, uniform mass. This type of ingredient belongs to the Emulsifiers
category, which forms the backbone of nearly every cream, lotion or balm produced today, whether at home or on a production line. The 50 g pack is well suited for trial batches and small-scale formulation testing, letting a formulator check emulsion behavior before scaling up to larger volumes.
The most common use of ERCANOL M14 is in face and body creams, lotions, hair conditioning emulsions and cosmetic milks, where it creates a light yet firm texture that spreads easily and resists separation over time. Beyond personal care manufacturing, similar emulsifying systems are used in cream bases for household chemical products and in certain topical pharmaceutical formulations that require a stable oil-water bond.
ERCANOL M14 pairs well with natural waxes such as Soy Wax, which adds body and a matte finish to the final product. For a lighter, warm-weather texture it is often combined with Emulsifier ERCAMULS AE V, while Cetearyl Alcohol boosts thickening and gives the finished cream a velvety feel.
The recommended usage rate for ERCANOL M14 is between 3 and 8 percent of the total formula weight, depending on the desired thickness of the end product. It should be added to the oil phase while heating to 70-75 degrees Celsius, after which the oil and water phases are combined at matching temperatures and homogenized thoroughly until fully cooled. This method ensures a fine, stable emulsion structure and prevents phase separation during storage.
ERCANOL M14 should be stored in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and heat sources, in a tightly sealed container. Under proper storage conditions it retains its emulsifying performance for an extended period, making it a practical choice for small labs running several test formulations in a row.
Trial batch body lotion
ERCANOL M14 - 4 g
Sweet almond oil - 8 g
Cocoa butter - 5 g
Cetearyl alcohol - 3 g
Distilled water - 76 g
Glycerin - 3 g
Lavender essential oil - 1 g
Combine
the emulsifier ERCANOL M14 with almond oil, cocoa butter and cetearyl alcohol
in a heatproof container and warm over a water bath to 70-75 degrees until
fully melted. Warm the water and glycerin separately to the same temperature,
then slowly pour the water phase into the oil phase while stirring
continuously. Whip the mixture with a mixer until a smooth, creamy consistency
forms, cool to about 40 degrees, blend in the lavender essential oil, then
transfer to a clean container and let it cool completely before use.
