A Large-Volume Thickening Solution From Guar Seeds
Guar gum in a 25 kg pack is designed for manufacturers that need a reliable, consistent thickener supplied in bulk. This natural polysaccharide is extracted from the seeds of the guar plant and is widely used across the food industry as a stabilizer and texture builder in sauces, dairy products, baked goods, ice cream and beverages. It is equally important in the oil and gas sector, where it thickens fracturing fluids during hydraulic fracturing, as well as in textile and paper manufacturing for controlling the viscosity of processing solutions. Within cosmetic formulation, guar gum belongs to the gelling agents and thickeners category, where it helps build shampoos, conditioners, creams and gels with a soft, flowing texture.
What sets guar gum apart is its ability to hydrate in cold water, forming viscous solutions even at low concentrations, which makes it a cost-efficient choice compared to many alternative thickeners. In industrial formulas, recommended dosage typically ranges from 0.2 to 1.5 percent of the total batch weight, depending on the desired thickness and product type. The powder should be added gradually under continuous stirring to prevent clumping, and water temperature can range from room temperature up to 40-50 degrees Celsius for faster dispersion. Full hydration and viscosity stabilization usually take between 20 and 40 minutes after addition.
In cosmetic formulations, guar gum is frequently paired with other thickeners to achieve the desired consistency and stability. It can be combined with xanthan gum, which enhances suspension properties and gives the formula a smoother texture. For clear viscous gels, a blend with Polygel CA works well, while for thickening shampoos and liquid detergents, pairing it with Antal Light allows for stable viscosity without weighing down the product texture.
For industrial-scale use, the 25 kg pack ensures a stable raw material supply throughout long production cycles, which matters greatly for conveyor lines where batch-to-batch reproducibility is essential. The material withstands moderate temperature fluctuations, but guar gum solutions are sensitive to prolonged heating above 80 degrees Celsius and strongly acidic environments, both of which can reduce the final viscosity of the product. The powder should be stored in a dry, cool place, in its original sealed packaging, protected from moisture and direct sunlight, since guar gum is highly hygroscopic and can clump when exposed to air.
Guar gum is compatible with most surfactants, preservatives and plant extracts, making it a versatile ingredient for household chemical products, food manufacturing and skincare formulations. It is also used in laundry gels and dishwashing liquids, where it helps regulate flow without leaving a sticky film behind.
Thickened Dishwashing Gel, 10 Liter Batch
Distilled water 9000 ml
Guar gum 60 g
Cocamidopropyl betaine surfactant 400 ml
Citric acid for flow adjustment 15 g
Food grade or perfume fragrance 20 ml
Preservative per manufacturer instructions 25 ml
In
a separate container, dissolve the guar gum in 2 liters of warm water at around
45 degrees Celsius, whisking thoroughly until no lumps remain, then let the
mixture rest for 30 minutes to fully hydrate. Add the remaining water, pour in
the surfactant, and stir slowly to avoid excessive foaming. Finally, add the
preservative, fragrance and citric acid in small portions, adjusting the flow
to the desired consistency, then transfer the finished gel into clean
containers.
