Why Avocado Wax Delivers Firm Structure to Small-Batch Skincare Formulas

Avocado wax is derived from the pulp of Persea americana fruit through pressing and subsequent hardening of the extracted oil into a firm consistency. This ingredient belongs to the category of butters, which brings together dense plant-based fats used to add structure to creams, balms and solid sticks. The 25 gram packaging is well suited for home formulation and small trial batches, allowing formulators to test a recipe before scaling production.

The primary application of avocado wax is in the manufacture of nourishing skincare for dry and mature skin, along with hair repair treatments. Thanks to its relatively high melting point of around 60-65 degrees, this ingredient holds its shape well in lip balms, solid creams, body sticks and intensive hair masks. In the fragrance and candle industries avocado wax is used less frequently, though it sometimes appears in natural candle formulations as a component that reduces brittleness of the base.

Avocado wax should be introduced during the oil phase melting stage at 65-70 degrees, with typical dosage ranging from 5 to 15 percent of the total formula depending on the desired firmness of the final product. It blends well with liquid oils such as olive, sweet almond and coconut, as well as with other butters. For example, to achieve a more complex cream texture it can be combined with Almond Butter, which adds lightness and softening properties to the finished product.

For rich nourishing sticks avocado wax is often paired with exotic butters such as Shorea Stenoptera Seed Butter, which provides additional stability and density to the texture. This combination is popular in developing solid hand balms and spot treatments for very dry skin areas. Another effective pairing is with Butter Jojoba, which stabilizes consistency and extends shelf life thanks to its natural antioxidant properties.

Avocado wax should be stored in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight, in tightly sealed packaging. At room temperature the product retains a firm consistency, though in hot weather it may soften slightly - this does not affect its quality. Before use in larger production runs, it is advisable to check the batch for uniform melting behavior, especially when scaling a formula for a bigger output.

Grapeseed oil 5 grams

Vitamin E 2 grams

Melt the avocado wax and shea butter together in a double boiler at 65-70 degrees until fully liquid. Remove from heat, add the sweet almond oil and grapeseed oil, then stir until fully combined. Finally mix in the vitamin E as an antioxidant, stir once more and pour the blend into stick molds. Allow the mixture to set at room temperature for 3-4 hours before use.
