Industrial Grade Adsorbent Solving Moisture Control Challenges Across Sectors
Silica gel ShSMG is a fine-grained adsorbent based on porous silicon dioxide, engineered to capture and hold moisture from air, gases and liquid media with high efficiency. This material belongs to the category of Chemical Raw Materials, which is in steady demand among manufacturing facilities of very different profiles, ranging from gas processing plants to packaging industries. The 35 kg packaging is specifically designed for industrial consumption and continuous production lines, where reliable and stable supply of large batches of raw material is essential.
The primary application of silica gel ShSMG lies in drying natural and associated gas at compressor stations, as well as dehumidifying air in ventilation and air conditioning systems at industrial sites. Granules of this grade have increased mechanical strength, which allows their use in loading columns with repeated regeneration cycles without significant grain degradation. In the chemical industry, silica gel serves as a catalyst carrier and a drying agent inside reactors, where residual moisture could otherwise disrupt technological processes or shorten equipment lifespan.
The material is widely used in the production of double-glazed window units, where granules are placed inside the spacer frame to prevent condensation and internal frost formation on the glass. In the packaging sector, silica gel is used to manufacture moisture-absorbing sachets that protect electronics, textiles, leather goods, food products and pharmaceutical items from dampness during long-term storage and transportation. In the food and pharmaceutical industries, the adsorbent is placed inside containers with finished goods or raw materials to prevent spoilage caused by residual humidity, while the silica gel itself does not come into direct contact with the product, acting indirectly through the air inside the packaging.
In the cosmetic industry, silica gel is used as a mattifying and oil-absorbing component in dry shampoos, pressed powders and certain decorative cosmetics, where it helps absorb sebum and gives loose powdery products the desired texture. In such formulations the dosage typically ranges from 3 to 10 percent of the total batch weight and is introduced during the mixing of dry ingredients at room temperature, without heating.
When handling large volumes of silica gel, it is worth considering compatibility with other chemical raw materials frequently used at the same production sites. For instance, at facilities where silica gel is used for drying technological lines, Propylene Glycol food grade 215 kg is often applied in parallel as a heat carrier or humectant in related formulations, along with Glycerin 250 kg, which acts as a moisture-retaining agent in cosmetic and food additive production. Such combinations are typical for large raw material supermarkets, where both drying and humectant components are purchased under one roof for different production lines. In addition, some chemical processes use silica gel together with Magnesium oxide, 25 kg, which is added to increase the alkaline stability of drying mixtures and neutralize acidic gases within the system.
Silica gel ShSMG must be stored in tightly sealed containers that prevent contact with atmospheric air prior to use, since the material actively absorbs moisture even under normal room humidity. The storage area should be dry and free from sharp temperature fluctuations. Once saturated with moisture, silica gel can be regenerated by heating it to approximately 120-150 degrees Celsius for several hours, which restores its adsorption capacity and allows the material to be reused in industrial cycles.
Drying Blend for Bulk Storage Containers
Silica gel ShSMG 5000 g
Magnesium oxide 250 g
Propylene glycol food grade 120 ml
To
prepare the blend, spread the silica gel evenly across fabric sachets or perforated
trays placed inside a storage container designated for moisture-sensitive
goods. Add magnesium oxide in separate portions around the perimeter of the
load to neutralize possible acidic vapors and improve the overall stability of
the drying system. Apply propylene glycol in a thin layer to the inner walls of
the container for additional retention of residual moisture during
transportation. Place the combined blend inside the container for the full
storage period of the cargo, periodically checking the moisture saturation of
the silica gel and replacing or regenerating it as needed.
