Getting a deep blue tone right in resin, wax and small-batch cosmetics

The most common use of this pigment worldwide is in resin art and polymer craft. It is widely used to tint epoxy resin when casting jewelry, coasters, tabletops and decorative panels, as well as to color polymer clay, small-scale plaster and concrete castings, and silicone molds. In candle making it is blended into melted wax to achieve an even blue tone across decorative and interior candles. In household chemical production it colors homemade gels, laundry products and similar formulations where a stable shade after curing matters. Decorative cosmetics form another steady application, where the pigment is dosed in small amounts into eyeshadow bases, nail lacquers and other tinted products, and, as a third and less central example, it also finds use in soap making for creating contrasting swirls and patterns.
Since the pigment does not dissolve in water, it is best pre-dispersed in a small amount of carrier oil, glycerin or a portion of resin until it forms a smooth paste - this prevents clumping and uneven specks in the finished product. A dosage of roughly 0.5 to 3 percent of the total formula usually gives a deep, saturated color, and the exact amount is easiest to fine-tune on small test batches like this one. Add the powder to resin or wax while the base is still liquid, at room temperature or gently warmed up to about 60-70 degrees Celsius, to avoid premature setting of the mixture.
This pigment pairs well with other colored components from the same line, allowing layered and complex tones. Adding a small amount of Fluorescent Blue Pigment 5 g gives cast pieces a glow under UV light, while combining it with Metallic Powder Blue 5 g adds a soft shimmering finish and extra depth to finished resin or wax items. For decorative cosmetics, particularly when formulating colored lipsticks, the more concentrated Blue Lipstick Pigment 2 g is a better fit, since it is specifically milled for oil-based bases.
Keep the pigment in a tightly sealed container, in a dry place away from direct sunlight, at room temperature. Moisture causes the particles to clump together, making it harder to achieve an even color distribution later on. If the powder has been stored for a long time, sifting a small amount through a fine mesh before use is recommended.

Melt the soy wax gently in a double boiler until fully liquid, then remove from heat and let it cool slightly to around 65 degrees Celsius. Stir in the pigment thoroughly until the color is completely even with no visible specks, then add the fragrance oil and mix again for about a minute. Pour the melted wax into the silicone mold, tap it gently on the counter to release any air bubbles, and let the melts cool undisturbed at room temperature for several hours before unmolding.
