Getting reliable emulsions with a plant-based emulsifier for small-batch skincare
Natura Tec Emulactive W 25 g is a compact pack of a plant-derived emulsifier designed to produce stable oil-in-water emulsions. This size works well for home formulators, trial batches, and testing new recipes before scaling up to larger production runs. The product belongs to the category of emulsifiers, which brings together components responsible for binding water and oil phases into a uniform, stable system without separation.
The main application of Emulactive W is in the manufacture of face and body creams, lotions, hair emulsions, and light balms. The ingredient is widely used in skincare production where a stable dispersion of the oil phase within the water phase is needed without leaving a greasy feel on the skin. The emulsifier works well with a broad range of vegetable and synthetic oils, silicones, and pairs nicely with natural-origin thickeners. Dosage typically ranges from 3 to 8 percent of the total formula weight, depending on the oil phase content and desired texture density.
Emulactive W should be added to the oil phase during heating, at approximately 70-75 degrees Celsius, after which the oil phase is combined with the water phase preheated to the same temperature under continuous stirring. This approach ensures even distribution of the emulsifier and prevents lumping or separation in the finished product. Once the phases are combined, the mixture is cooled with continuous stirring down to room temperature, allowing the structure to stabilize fully.
For richer formulas with a higher content of fatty acids and waxes, combining with Natura Tec Emulactive ISO 25 g works well — this pairing of two emulsifiers produces a denser, more stable consistency suited for nourishing creams and balms. In formulas focused on softness and care for dry skin, it is worth adding Natura Tec Plantsoft L 20 g, which enhances the sensory softness and improves the spreadability of the finished product.
The emulsifier should be stored in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight, in tightly sealed packaging, which preserves its functional properties throughout the shelf life. To give finished emulsions a pleasant floral note, formulators often use natural aromatic components such as Tuberose Wax 10 g, which is added at the very end of preparation, once the main mass has cooled to about 40 degrees.
Light body lotion with grapeseed oil
Distilled water 70 g
Grapeseed oil 12 g
Emulactive W 5 g
Glycerin 4 g
Aloe extract 3 g
Panthenol 2 g
Fragrance or tuberose wax 0.5 g
Preservative 1 g
Heat
the oil phase together with the dissolved emulsifier to 72 degrees on a water
bath, and heat the water phase separately to the same temperature. Slowly pour
the water phase into the oil phase while stirring continuously with a mixer for
5-7 minutes. Remove from the bath and keep stirring while cooling, adding
glycerin, aloe extract, panthenol, fragrance and preservative once the mixture
drops below 40 degrees. Pour the finished lotion into a clean container and let
it stabilize for 24 hours before use.
