Clear Melt and Pour Base Built for Studio-Scale Soap Crafting
Crystal WSLS Soap Base Stephenson in a 1 kg block belongs to the Stephenson Soap Base category and offers a ready-to-melt material for producing solid bars through the classic melt and pour technique. This mid-size format works well both for hobbyists testing new formulas and additives at home and for small studios producing limited batches for sale. The base arrives as a dense block that is easy to cube before melting.
The main use of this material is crafting decorative and functional solid bars enriched with essential oils, fragrance blends, botanical extracts, pigments and cosmetic glitter. It is valued for the clarity it gives finished bars and its ability to suspend embedded particles such as dried flowers, sparkles or loofah fibers, opening plenty of room for creative layered designs. Beyond purely decorative projects, the base is widely used for gift sets, souvenir items and sample bars for testing new scent combinations before scaling into larger production runs.
Melting is typically done using a double boiler or a microwave at around 60-70 degrees Celsius, avoiding boiling or overheating since this can cloud the mass and reduce the flexibility of the finished bar. Once melted, active ingredients are blended in: carrier oils are added at up to 5-7 percent of total weight to preserve lather and structure, fragrance oils at around 2-3 percent, while pigments and colorants follow the specific manufacturer guidance, usually in very small amounts. For a richer, more nourishing bar, WSLS base pairs well with other formulations such as Crystal OS soap base - Oatmeal Shea, which adds a gentle exfoliating texture and nourishing components, or Soap base Crystal Shea, which blends smoothly and simplifies layering in multi-tone bars. For makers who prefer milder formulas without harsh surfactants, the Crystal SLS Free Stephenson Soap Base can be alternated in layers with WSLS for interesting visual and tactile contrast.
When pouring into molds, the mixture should sit at roughly 50-55 degrees Celsius to prevent condensation on the surface and ensure an even set free of air bubbles. Lightly misting the surface with rubbing alcohol before pouring a subsequent layer is a good habit when building multi-layer designs. Finished bars are usually released from molds after 30-60 minutes at room temperature, or the process can be sped up in a refrigerator.
Unused portions of the block should be kept in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and strong odors, sealed tightly to prevent moisture absorption that could affect the texture during a later melt. Under proper storage the base retains its working qualities for a long period, making the 1 kg format a practical choice for regular small-batch practice or trial runs ahead of larger production.
Honey Oat Citrus Bar
Crystal WSLS soap base - 400 g
Raw honey - 20 g
Ground oats - 10 g
Sweet orange essential oil - 8 ml
Grapeseed oil - 12 ml
Cube the base and melt it over a double boiler until fully liquid, keeping the temperature below boiling point. Remove from heat and let it cool to about 60 degrees, then stir in the honey, grapeseed oil and orange essential oil until evenly combined without excessive foaming. Fold in the ground oats for gentle texture, then pour the mixture into a silicone mold. Mist the surface lightly with rubbing alcohol to release trapped air, and let the bar set at room temperature for about an hour before unmolding.
