A ruby-red shimmer pigment built for precise color layering
Mica Covapearl Pure Carmine 3 g belongs to the Mica Powders category, a group of pearlescent pigments built on natural mica flakes coated with iron oxides and titanium dioxide. That coating gives carmine its distinctive ruby depth rather than a flat red, with a shifting shimmer that changes intensity depending on the angle of light. The small 3 g jar is a practical choice for home-based formulators, hobby makers and anyone running a small test batch before scaling up to a larger production run.
The pigment finds its widest use in color cosmetics: eyeshadows, blushes, lipsticks, lip glosses, nail lacquers and contouring products all benefit from its warm, luminous red-purple sheen. Formulators frequently layer carmine over neutral bases to create depth in multi-tone eyeshadow palettes. Beyond makeup, this mica is a staple in bath bomb and bath salt production, where it dissolves into striking color swirls in water, and it performs equally well in resin art, polymer clay, slime, candle making and soap coloring, where it is typically added at the final cooling stage to avoid color fading from prolonged heat exposure.
For emulsions and anhydrous formulations, a usage rate between 0.5 and 3 percent of total batch weight is generally enough to achieve strong, even coverage. The pigment should be introduced during the cooling phase, at temperatures no higher than 40-45 degrees Celsius, to keep particle distribution even and prevent clumping. Pre-dispersing the mica in a small amount of carrier oil or emollient before blending it into a larger batch helps eliminate dry specks and streaking in the final product.
Carmine mixes readily with other pearlescent and matte pigments, opening up a wide range of layered color effects. Pairing it with the cooler-toned Mica Pearl Violet 5 g produces a rich wine-red undertone with a violet cast that works particularly well in autumn and winter makeup collections. For a bold complementary contrast, combining it with Green mica Majestic 3 g creates a striking red-green interplay that stands out on an eyeshadow palette. When a softer, cooler metallic finish is needed, blending in a small amount of Silver Gray Mica 3 g tones down the saturation and adds a frosted highlight.
Store the pigment in a tightly sealed container away from direct sunlight and moisture, at normal room temperature. Under proper storage conditions the mica retains its color stability and free-flowing texture for a long period without clumping or losing its shimmer. It is best handled with gloves on a covered work surface, since the fine particles disperse easily and settle on nearby surfaces.
Ruby shimmer resin pendant
Clear epoxy resin 20 ml
Hardener 10 ml
Mica Covapearl Pure Carmine 0.2 g
Fine glitter flakes 0.3 g
Silicone pendant mold
Mix
the resin and hardener together slowly for about three minutes, avoiding excess
air bubbles. Divide the mixture into two small cups and stir the mica into one
portion until the color is fully even, then fold in the glitter flakes for
extra sparkle. Pour the tinted resin into the mold in thin layers, alternating
with a few drops of clear resin to create depth, and use a toothpick to swirl
the colors gently. Let the piece cure undisturbed for 24 hours at room
temperature away from dust before removing it from the mold.
