A Fine Mica Pigment Powering Cosmetic and Industrial Shine Effects
Pearl Powder is a finely milled mineral pigment based on mica with an oxide coating, delivering a distinct pearlescent shimmer across a wide range of finished products. While home crafters do use it, the largest real demand comes from manufacturers of color cosmetics, skin and hair care formulators, as well as producers of resin goods, candles, polymer items and decorative household chemistry. The 100 gram size fits small-batch studio production and formula testing before scaling to larger runs. This item belongs to the Metallic Mica Powder section, which brings together dry mineral pigments of various particle sizes and shine effects for diverse manufacturing needs.
In skin care formulations, the powder is added to creams, lotions, body oils and balms at the final cooling stage, once the base drops below 40 degrees Celsius, to preserve the integrity of the oxide coating on each particle. Typical dosage ranges from 0.5 to 3 percent of total product weight depending on the desired shimmer intensity. In color cosmetics, this pigment is used in eyeshadows, highlighters, bronzers, lip glosses and makeup primers, giving skin a natural glow without a heavy film sensation. Pearl powder remains stable across a broad pH range, which makes it easy to combine with both acidic and alkaline ingredients without losing its optical properties.
On the industrial side, pearl powder finds application in automotive paint formulations, protective coatings, polymer molding, ceramics and textile printing, where a durable metallic sheen resistant to fading is required. When blended into epoxy resin, the pigment disperses evenly throughout the volume with thorough mixing and stays suspended when the resin viscosity is correctly balanced. In candle making, the powder is dusted onto the surface of a cured candle or stirred into melted wax at around 60-70 degrees Celsius to achieve a decorative shimmering finish.
Pearl Powder pairs naturally with other pigments from the same line, such as Soft Pink Pearl Pigment, allowing formulators to build layered color transitions in decorative products. For bold contrast effects it can be combined with Mother of Pearl Chameleon, which shifts tone depending on the viewing angle. For scrub textures with a subtle glow, a coarser grade like Mother of pearl silver scrub works particularly well. Store the pigment in a sealed container, away from direct sunlight and moisture, in a dry area to keep its properties stable for a long period.
Shimmering Body Butter Bar
Cocoa butter 50 g
Sweet almond oil 30 g
Beeswax 12 g
Pearl Powder 2 g
Vitamin E oil 1 g
Lavender essential oil 8 drops
Melt
the cocoa butter, almond oil and beeswax together in a double boiler until
fully liquid, then remove from heat and let the mixture cool to about 40
degrees Celsius. Stir in the vitamin E and lavender essential oil until fully
blended. Sprinkle in the pearl powder gradually while stirring continuously so
the shimmer distributes evenly throughout the mixture. Pour the blend into
silicone molds and allow it to set at room temperature for several hours before
unmolding.
