Chunky Silver Mica for Textured Shimmer in Skincare and Craft Projects
Mother of pearl silver scrub is a coarse-grain mineral pigment based on mica coated with titanium dioxide, delivering not a smooth uniform sheen but a distinct textured effect of individually visible sparkling flecks. This is exactly what makes it valuable wherever surface texture matters: body scrubs and polishes, shower gels with a shimmering finish, bath bombs and bath salts, decorative candles, slime, and resin art projects. The item belongs to the Metallic Mica Powder range, which brings together mineral pigments of different particle sizes and shades for both decorative and skincare formulations.
The 10 g pack is sized for home crafting and trial batches — enough to test concentration in a small run of scrub, gel, or bath bomb and see exactly how the coarse flecks behave in the finished texture before scaling up a recipe. The larger silver particles hold well in viscous, dense bases: sugar and salt scrubs, cream bases, glycerin and clear soap bases, and wax blends for candles. In thinner, clear liquids such as shower gels or shampoos the flakes may settle slowly over time, so shaking the container before use or blending the pigment with a thickener beforehand is recommended.
Suggested usage ranges from 0.5 to 3% of the total product weight depending on the desired intensity: the lower end gives a subtle shimmer, while higher amounts create a bolder, more visible scrub-like sparkle. The pigment should be added at the final stage of production, once the base has cooled to around 40-50 degrees Celsius, to avoid breaking down the coating on the mica particles under heat and to preserve the characteristic shine. When working with hot oil or wax blends for candles, let the mixture cool to a similar range before mixing in the pigment.
The cool silver tone pairs easily with other mineral pigments in the line: contrasted against warmer shades, it works particularly well alongside Metallic Powder Bronze for marbled or gradient effects. For larger decorative projects or small production runs, Mother of Pearl Chameleon adds a color-shifting finish, while Mother of Pearl White often serves as a neutral base for such combinations. The pigment does not dissolve in water, remains stable across the pH range of most cosmetic bases, and keeps its shine over time when stored in a dry place away from direct sunlight, in a tightly sealed container, protected from moisture.
Beyond skincare and decorative cosmetics, coarse-grain pigments like this are widely used in candle making for sparkling inclusions, in household chemistry for gels and liquid soaps with a visual accent, and in the craft and resin community for slime and pour art. In traditional soap making it appears less often, typically as a decorative topping rather than the primary colorant.
Silver Shimmer Sugar Scrub Cubes
Granulated sugar 100 g
Melted shea butter 40 g
Sweet almond oil 20 ml
Mother of pearl silver scrub 1 g
Vanilla fragrance oil 6 drops
Melt
the shea butter gently until liquid, then stir in the almond oil and sugar
until fully combined into a thick, sandy paste. Once the mixture has cooled
slightly but is still workable, fold in the silver pigment and fragrance oil
until the sparkle is evenly distributed throughout. Press the mixture firmly
into small silicone molds, let it set at room temperature for a few hours, then
unmold and store the finished cubes in an airtight container away from heat and
moisture.
