Product Description
What makes wheat germ butter a staple in nourishing skincare formulations
Wheat germ butter is a rich, dense plant-based fat extracted from the germ of wheat kernels through cold pressing and subsequent refining. It belongs to the category of butters, valued for their firm texture that helps stabilize balms, sticks and creams without causing separation in the finished product. The 1 kg package size is designed primarily for small-batch studio production and light industrial manufacturing, where a consistent supply of raw material across multiple production runs matters most.
The primary industry driving demand for this ingredient is cosmetic manufacturing, where wheat germ butter is prized for its naturally high concentration of vitamin E, phytosterols and polyunsaturated fatty acids. This composition makes it a popular choice for anti-aging creams, nourishing body lotions, balms for dry and dehydrated skin, as well as hair and cuticle repair products. Beyond decorative and skincare cosmetics, the butter is also used in pharmaceutical production for ointments and liniments, and in the dietary supplement industry thanks to its dense lipid profile.
In formulations, the butter is typically melted into the oil phase together with other fats and waxes at around 60-70 degrees Celsius before being emulsified with the water phase. Recommended usage rates in finished creams and balms range from 3 to 15 percent depending on the desired texture and product purpose. It pairs well with lighter butters and oils: combining it with sea buckthorn butter produces a rich restorative blend suited for dry skin, while passion butter softens the texture and improves spreadability. For formulations aimed at mineral-rich, purifying care, it can be blended with laminaria butter.
Wheat germ butter should be stored in an airtight container, away from direct sunlight, at temperatures not exceeding 20-25 degrees Celsius to prevent premature oxidation of the fatty acids. The larger package format allows manufacturers to plan formulations ahead without frequent reordering, which is particularly valuable for conveyor-style production of skincare lines.
