Product Description
How Wheat Germ Butter Supports Skin and Hair Formulations
Wheat germ butter is produced by processing oil extracted from the germ portion of the wheat kernel, naturally rich in vitamin E, phytosterols and unsaturated fatty acids. This high tocopherol content makes it one of the most sought-after antioxidant raw materials in the global cosmetic industry - it is used not only in skincare products but also as a natural stabilizer in formulations containing other vegetable oils, helping to extend the shelf life of finished goods. The 25 gram size is convenient for test batches and home cosmetic making, allowing formulators to trial the ingredient in small quantities before scaling up production. This product belongs to the category of butters, which brings together dense plant fats known for their nourishing and protective qualities.
The main application of wheat germ butter is in skincare for dry, mature and dehydrated skin: creams, balms, body and face products, and anti-aging formulations. In hair care it is added to masks and leave-in treatments for split ends and damaged hair, since its fatty acids help restore the lipid barrier of the hair shaft. In niche perfumery and household chemical products, this butter also appears as a component that softens formulations and improves the even distribution of active ingredients. Its use in candle making deserves separate mention - adding a small percentage of wheat germ butter to wax blends improves flexibility and reduces brittleness in finished candles.
The texture is firm, which allows it to be blended with softer butters to adjust the final texture of the product. It pairs well with sea buckthorn butter, which enhances the regenerating effect of formulations, and with olive butter for lighter feeling cream textures. For recipes focused on density and richness, combining it with kokum butter helps further stabilize the emulsion structure.
Wheat germ butter should be introduced into the oil phase during melting at around 60-65 degrees Celsius, with typical usage rates ranging from 3 to 10 percent depending on the desired texture and product purpose. Store the ingredient in a tightly sealed container in a cool place away from direct sunlight to preserve its antioxidant properties and prevent premature fat oxidation.
