Caproic Acid 10 g

Caproic Acid as chemical intermediate for flavor and cosmetic manufacturing

Caproic Acid is a short chain fatty acid used as a building block in the production of esters and functional ingredients. It is applied in flavor, fragrance, cosmetic, and industrial processes where controlled reactivity and predictable conversion into derivatives are required.

Properties of Caproic Acid

Caproic Acid shows high reactivity in esterification processes with alcohols, forming compounds with fruity and creamy odor profiles. It is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and oils, while its solubility in water is limited. The raw material has a sharp odor that changes significantly after chemical conversion into esters.

Application of Caproic Acid

Caproic Acid is used in synthesis of flavor esters, fragrance components, and cosmetic raw materials. It is applied in food manufacturing as an intermediate, in perfumery compositions, and in technical chemical production. Suitable for industrial use where ester formation and modification of raw materials are required.

Behavior in formulation

Caproic Acid is used as a reactive ingredient rather than a final additive. It is typically dissolved in alcohol or organic solvent before processing. Under heating and in the presence of a catalyst, it reacts with alcohols to form stable ester compounds.

Formulation incorporation

Caproic Acid is used according to formulation requirements, typically in the range of 0.1 to 2 percent in blends, or calculated precisely for synthesis reactions.

Recipe Butyl Caproate aromatic ester

Ingredients
Caproic Acid 10 g
Butanol 50 ml
Citric Acid 1 g
Purified Water 10 ml

Processing

Caproic Acid is mixed with butanol and citric acid is added. The mixture is heated in a water bath at about 70 degrees for 1 to 2 hours with continuous stirring. After completion of the reaction, purified water is added and the mixture is stirred until uniform. The resulting ester can be used as an aromatic component.

Instruction

Caproic Acid should be handled as a reactive raw material. Butanol is used as the alcohol component for ester formation. Reaction conditions such as temperature and time must be controlled to achieve consistent results.
