Olivem 1000 25 g

Choosing a Gentle Emulsifier for Your First Cream Batches

Olivem 1000 in a 25 g pack is a practical choice for anyone starting out with homemade cream and lotion formulation or testing a new recipe before committing to a larger purchase. This ingredient belongs to the Emulsifiers category, which brings together components for stabilizing oil-water systems, though Olivem 1000 stands out thanks to its olive-derived origin and its ability to form a lamellar structure resembling the skin's own lipid barrier.

The primary demand for this emulsifier comes from the skincare manufacturing industry, where stability alone is not enough — the sensory feel after application matters just as much. Thanks to its self-emulsifying behavior, the ingredient creates a liquid crystalline structure that helps retain moisture and reduce transepidermal water loss. This makes it a popular choice among manufacturers of day and night creams, products for sensitive and dry skin, and formulations aimed at children. Beyond facial and body care, the compound also finds use in household chemical formulations requiring stable creamy textures, and occasionally in food-related emulsion systems as a texturizing agent, though this application is far less common.

Typical usage levels range from 3 to 8 percent of the total formula weight, depending on the desired thickness and stability of the final product. It should be added to the oil phase at around 70-75 degrees Celsius, after which the phases are combined and homogenized until a uniform emulsion forms. Olivem 1000 pairs well with vegetable oils, cocoa and shea butter, silicones, and other consistency stabilizers. For lighter textures, consider combining it with Sucragel AOF, which forms a gel base without an oil phase, or with Emulsifier Eumulgin Prisma for creating lightweight emulsions with a smooth glide.

For richer, more nourishing creams that need extra stability at higher storage temperatures, it's worth exploring a combination with Emulsifier Beautyderm K10, which helps maintain emulsion stability across varying climate conditions. Store the emulsifier in a dry, cool place, in tightly sealed packaging, away from direct sunlight and moisture, to preserve its functional properties throughout its shelf life.

The 25 g pack size is well suited for home experimentation, trial batches, and testing new formulas before scaling up production, allowing you to evaluate the texture and stability of a future cream without wasting raw materials.

Lightweight Facial Moisturizer

Olivem 1000 - 4 g

Shea butter - 5 g

Grapeseed oil - 6 g

Distilled water - 78 g

Glycerin - 3 g

Lavender essential oil - 4 drops

Heat the oil phase containing the emulsifier and butters over a water bath to 70 degrees Celsius, while warming the water and glycerin separately to the same temperature. Slowly pour the water phase into the oil phase while stirring continuously, keep mixing as the mixture cools to about 40 degrees, then add the essential oil and transfer the finished cream into a clean jar.
