Industrial-Grade Birch Bud Oil Extract for Scalp and Hair Care Formulations
Birch bud oil extract belongs to the Oil Extracts category, which brings together plant-based concentrates used across small studio batches and large-scale manufacturing lines. The 1 liter packaging is designed specifically for continuous production runs, where manufacturers need a reliable supply of raw material without interruptions in formulation cycles.
Birch buds have long been valued in cosmetic manufacturing for their rich content of resinous compounds, essential oils and flavonoids, extracted through oil maceration. This extraction method preserves the maximum amount of active plant compounds and makes the extract easy to introduce into the oil phase of virtually any formula. The primary application area is scalp and hair care: anti-dandruff shampoos, conditioners, tonics and serums, sebum-balancing formulations, and products designed for oily or problematic scalp conditions. Birch extract is traditionally appreciated for its toning and refreshing effect on skin, its ability to support balanced sebum production, and its contribution to a healthy appearance of hair.
Beyond trichology-focused cosmetics, the extract is used in body creams and lotions with a refreshing, toning effect, in aftershave formulations, and in men's grooming lines thanks to its characteristic woody aroma nuance. Within the fragrance and cosmetic industry, it is occasionally used as a component that enriches compositions with natural notes. In household chemistry, the extract can be found in hand care formulations manufactured as part of professional-grade industrial gel lines.
Birch extract combines well with other plant-derived oil extracts, allowing formulators to build complex, multifunctional blends. It is often paired with witch hazel oil extract to enhance sebum-balancing and toning effects in anti-oiliness scalp products, and combined with amaranth oil extract to build nourishing, antioxidant-rich complexes. For body and face formulations, it works well alongside pomegranate oil extract, which contributes additional antioxidant and moisturizing properties to the composition.
The recommended dosage of birch bud extract in finished formulations ranges from 1 to 5 percent of the total product mass, depending on the intended purpose and the active compound concentration of a given batch. It should be introduced during the formation of the oil or fat phase at a temperature not exceeding 40-45 degrees Celsius, to avoid degrading heat-sensitive compounds. In emulsion production, it is added after the main mass has cooled to the specified temperature, right before homogenization. The extract should be stored in tightly sealed containers, in a dark, cool location, away from direct sunlight and heat sources, which helps maintain formula stability throughout the shelf life during industrial-scale storage of large volumes.
Large-Batch Scalp Toning Concentrate
Birch bud oil extract 30 ml
Distilled water 900 ml
Cosmetic emulsifier 40 ml
Glycerin 20 ml
Cedarwood essential oil 10 ml
Heat
the water to 60 degrees Celsius and dissolve the emulsifier in it under
constant stirring until the mixture becomes uniform. Separately combine the
glycerin with the birch bud oil extract and cool the blend to 40 degrees
Celsius. Gradually pour the oil blend into the water phase in a thin stream
while stirring continuously until fully combined. Once the mixture has cooled
to room temperature, add the cedarwood essential oil, stir until evenly
distributed, and pour the finished tonic into containers prepared for further
packaging.
