Why formulators choose a dense opaque white base for detailed bar designs
White Opaque 40/7 is a solid, bright white opaque soap base that belongs to the Melt and Pour Soap Bases category and is designed for making solid cosmetic bars through the melt-and-pour method. This type of base is mostly demanded in soap making, where a firm dense texture and even white tone without extra bleaching agents matter most. The 1 kg package is convenient for home crafters experimenting with new formulas and for small workshops producing limited batches on request.
The main purpose of this material is producing solid bars enriched with oils, extracts, essential oils, colorants and exfoliating particles. Its dense opaque structure hides solid inclusions well inside the bar, such as oatmeal flakes, coffee grounds, dried herbs or mica, which makes it attractive for decorative layered designs. Besides soap making, similar bases are sometimes used for making novelty items, gift sets and test samples for checking new fragrance blends before scaling up to a larger production run.
It is recommended to melt the base using a double boiler or a microwave in short intervals, avoiding overheating and bubble formation on the surface. The optimal temperature for adding ingredients is around 55-60 degrees Celsius: at this range essential oils keep their scent and colorants disperse evenly without clumping. Fragrance oil dosage is typically 2 to 4 grams per 100 grams of base, while carrier oils and butters should not exceed 5-7 grams per the same amount, otherwise the finished bar may turn too soft and lose its shape.
White Opaque 40/7 pairs well with the transparent Soap base Melta clear 1 kg, a combination often used for layered and contrasting designs where an opaque white layer alternates with a colored transparent one. The material is also compatible with other white bases, such as Opaque White 10/3 / Y - white soap base, 1 kg
and Melta White Soap Base 1 kg, which allows adjusting density and setting speed depending on the project.
Store the base in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and strong odors, in a tightly sealed package, so it does not absorb moisture or foreign smells from the air. Under proper storage conditions the material keeps its properties for a long time and melts consistently without texture changes.
Lavender oatmeal exfoliating bar
White Opaque 40/7 — 300 g
Oatmeal flakes — 10 g
Sweet almond oil — 12 g
Lavender fragrance oil — 6 g
Dried lavender buds — 4 g
Rubbing alcohol — 5 ml
Cut the base into cubes and melt it over a double boiler until fully liquid, avoiding boiling. Remove from heat, stir in the almond oil until fully blended. Let the mixture cool slightly to about 58 degrees Celsius, then add the fragrance oil, oatmeal flakes and dried lavender buds, mixing quickly so the particles stay suspended and do not settle at the bottom. Spray the surface lightly with rubbing alcohol to remove air bubbles, then pour into molds. Leave to set at room temperature for several hours until fully hardened before carefully unmolding the finished bars.
