A gentle amphoteric cleanser for sensitive skin formulations
Sodium Babassuamphoacetate is a mild amphoteric surfactant derived from babassu oil, increasingly used in baby care lines, micellar water, intimate hygiene products, sulfate-free shampoos and cleansing gels designed for sensitive skin. This ingredient belongs to the category of Surfactants, which brings together components responsible for foaming, cleansing and stabilizing formulas across cosmetic, household and industrial chemistry applications worldwide.
The 50 ml packaging is aimed primarily at home formulators and small trial batches, giving enough material to test a shampoo, facial cleanser or baby wash recipe before scaling up to larger orders. The amphoteric nature of this compound is particularly valuable where low irritation to mucous membranes and the eye area matters, which is why it frequently appears in products for infants, pregnant women and people with reactive skin.
In real formulations Sodium Babassuamphoacetate is rarely used alone. It is usually blended with stronger anionic surfactants such as LABSA, ABSK 96%, 50 ml to soften the overall profile and reduce post-wash dryness while keeping strong foam and cleansing power. This combination is common in shampoos, shower gels and dish care products designed with a gentler feel.
When a formula requires conditioning on top of cleansing, this surfactant pairs well with cationic emulsifiers such as Polygreen Catiolive, 25 ml or its larger counterpart Polygreen Catiolive, 100 ml for bigger production runs. This pairing supports two-phase and conditioning shampoos, where cleansing is followed by light hair smoothing without weighing strands down.
Recommended usage typically ranges from 3 to 12 percent in the final formula, depending on the desired foam density and mildness. It is best added during the water phase mixing step, at around 40-50 degrees Celsius, after thickeners have dissolved and before heat-sensitive additives such as essential oils, extracts and preservatives are introduced. After adding the surfactant, the pH of the finished formula should be adjusted with citric acid to a level comfortable for skin and mucous membranes.
Store the raw material in a tightly closed container, in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Under proper storage conditions the compound retains stable foaming and cleansing performance throughout its shelf life. Beyond cosmetics, mild surfactants of this type are also used in household cleaning products for delicate surfaces and in certain food-grade auxiliary formulations where low material aggressiveness is required.
Gentle baby and sensitive skin wash
Distilled water 70 ml
Sodium Babassuamphoacetate 15 ml
Glycerin 3 ml
Panthenol 2 ml
Citric acid solution 10 percent 2 ml
Preservative 1 ml
Combine
the water and glycerin in a container and warm over a water bath to 45 degrees.
Add Sodium Babassuamphoacetate in a thin stream while stirring continuously
until uniform, avoiding excessive foam formation. Remove from the bath, allow
to cool to room temperature, then add the panthenol and preservative. Adjust
the acidity with the citric acid solution, adding it in small amounts and
checking the result each time. Transfer the finished wash into a clean
dispenser bottle and let it rest for a day before use to stabilize the
structure.
