Formulating Stable Water-Based Products with Salimix MCI

Salimix MCI is a broad-spectrum preservative system designed to protect water-based formulations from bacteria, yeast, and mold growth throughout the shelf life of the finished product. The 1 liter package size is intended for studio-scale and small industrial manufacturing, when production volumes have grown beyond trial batches but do not yet require bulk drum quantities. This makes it a practical choice for labs, contract manufacturers, and brands scaling up their formulations gradually. The main application of Salimix MCI is in skin and hair care manufacturing: creams, lotions, emulsions, shampoos, conditioners, and shower gels, where long-term microbial control is essential. Beyond cosmetics, the preservative is also widely used in wet wipes production, water-based household cleaning products, and certain technical formulations where contamination during storage needs to be prevented. It remains effective across a broad pH range and tolerates temperature fluctuations during the cooling phase, which is valuable for continuous-cycle production lines.

Salimix MCI should be added at the final stage of production, once the batch has cooled to around 35-40 degrees Celsius, to avoid thermal degradation of the active components. Typical usage levels range from 0.5 to 1.2 percent of the total formula weight, depending on the product composition, additional antimicrobial agents present, and the intended shelf life. Before incorporation, the preservative should be thoroughly mixed to ensure even distribution and should not come into direct contact with strong oxidizing agents.

This preservative combines well with other protective systems, allowing formulators to build layered microbial defense. It can be paired with Euxyl PE 9010 Preservative to strengthen protection against gram-negative bacteria, or used alongside Leucidal SF Complete in formulations with a naturally positioned marketing angle. In certain technical or industrial blends where stronger antibacterial action is acceptable, formulators sometimes add Triclosan, although this combination is used less often in mass-market cosmetic products.

Store the preservative in a tightly sealed container, in a cool place away from direct sunlight and heat sources, to maintain its declared efficacy over the full shelf life. Once opened, avoid moisture and foreign particles entering the container, and always use clean equipment when dispensing the product. Under proper storage conditions, the preservative remains stable and consistent even when handled in larger production batches.
