A gentle olive-derived cleanser built for repeatable batch production
An amphoteric surfactant derived from olive oil stands out among mild cleansing agents thanks to its balance of solid foaming performance and low irritation potential. This ingredient belongs to the broader category of Surfactants, which brings together components used to build cleansing formulas ranging from very mild to more foaming and rich. The 1 kg pack size is aimed at small-batch and studio-scale manufacturing, suiting labs and workshops that regularly produce shampoos, gels and facial cleansers in consistent volumes.
The main application of this amphoteric surfactant is in skin and hair cleansing products: shampoos, baby care items, intimate hygiene gels, formulas for sensitive skin and facial cleansing foams. Because of its amphoteric nature, the molecule can behave as either anionic or cationic depending on the pH of the environment, which makes it a convenient foam stabilizer and thickener in blended formulas. Beyond cosmetics, similarly mild surfactants are used in household cleaning products for delicate surfaces and fabrics, and occasionally in food and pharmaceutical auxiliary formulations where low irritation to skin and mucous membranes matters.
The ingredient performs well across a wide pH range and pairs easily with anionic, nonionic and other amphoteric surfactants, helping to reduce the overall irritation profile of a finished formula. It is frequently combined with Cocamidopropyl Betaine 45% to boost foam density and softness, as well as with Surfactant Lamesoft PO 65, which adds a silky after-feel and reduces post-rinse dryness. A useful combination can also be made with PROTEOL APL when an extra mild apple-derived surfactant is needed for baby or hypoallergenic lines.
The component is typically introduced during the water phase mixing step, at temperatures ranging from room temperature to moderately warm, around 40-45 degrees, avoiding high heat that could reduce its foaming properties. Recommended dosage in finished formulas usually ranges from 3 to 10 percent of the total batch weight, depending on the desired foam density and softness; for more concentrated industrial formulas, the ratio can be slightly increased based on trial batch results. Store the product in a tightly closed container, in a dry area away from direct sunlight, at room temperature, avoiding freezing and sharp temperature swings that could affect the consistency of the mass.
Sensitive scalp shampoo base
Olive amphoteric surfactant 55 g
Cocamidopropyl betaine 45% 35 g
Distilled water 290 g
Glycerin 10 g
Panthenol 5 g
Fragrance oil 3 g
Preservative 5 g
Warm the water and glycerin blend to about 40 degrees, then slowly add the olive amphoteric surfactant and cocamidopropyl betaine while stirring gently to avoid excess foam. Once the mixture cools to around 30 degrees, mix in the panthenol, fragrance and preservative, stir until fully uniform, and let the batch rest for a few hours to stabilize before bottling.
