A Rare Marine Ingredient for Repairing and Nourishing Formulas
Shark oil has earned its place in skincare manufacturing thanks to a notable concentration of squalene and fatty acids that support skin elasticity and softness. This ingredient belongs to the Liquid Basic Oils category, where formulators find both plant-based and animal-derived oils for creams, balms, and restorative serums. The 10 ml packaging is particularly convenient for home-based cosmetic making, small trial batches, and initial testing before committing to larger volumes of this specialized raw material.
The most common application of shark oil is in mature and fatigued skin care, where its softening and nourishing action helps restore comfort to dry or weathered skin. It is frequently incorporated into night creams, eye-area treatments, lip balms, and hand care products exposed to harsh weather conditions. Beyond skincare and color cosmetics, shark oil also appears in external formulations aimed at joint and muscle comfort, as well as in products designed for rough patches on heels and elbows requiring intensive softening.
From a technical standpoint, shark oil should be introduced during the final stage of emulsion preparation, into the oil phase, at a temperature not exceeding 40-45 degrees Celsius to preserve its active compounds. Recommended usage ranges from 1 to 5 percent of the total formula weight depending on the product type: lightweight daytime creams require only a minimal concentration, while intensive restorative formulas can use the higher end of the range. Shark oil pairs well with other base oils that complement its texture and nourishing profile. It works particularly well alongside Coriander Oil, which contributes lightness and antioxidant properties, as well as Macadamia Oil, known for its rich nourishing capacity and fast absorption. Another interesting combination is with Hemp Oil, which balances the formula with omega fatty acids and adds a lighter finish to the final product.
Shark oil should be stored in a tightly sealed container, away from direct sunlight and heat, which helps preserve its properties throughout the stated shelf life. Once opened, it is best used within a reasonable period to avoid prolonged exposure to air. The compact 10 ml format makes this ingredient convenient to keep on hand for precise dosing in small cream batches and for experimenting with new formulas without risking spoilage of a larger stock.
For home formulators, this ingredient offers the opportunity to create professional-grade skincare without purchasing large quantities of raw material. In small-scale production, shark oil often becomes the subtle addition that transforms a basic moisturizing cream into a product with a genuinely restorative feel.
