Cypress Essential Oil, 1 L
Cypress oil is steam distilled from the needles and young twigs of the Mediterranean cypress, Cupressus sempervirens. The product card lists the INCI name Cupressi essentia Oil, Greece as the country of production and a 1 L container.
Composition
Cypress oil is dominated by monoterpenes: alpha-pinene is usually the largest component, followed by delta-3-carene, limonene and myrcene, with terpinyl acetate among the esters. Proportions depend on the raw material, so refer to the certificate of analysis.
Odour
Fresh, coniferous and resinous with a slightly spicy edge and a dry woody base. In blends it adds coolness and a clean feel.
Applications
Body and foot care
Shower gels, refreshing foot gels and deodorising sprays.
Men’s grooming
Aftershaves and colognes.
Room fragrance
Diffuser blends and fabric sprays.
Usage guidance
Cypress oil is used at 0.5 to 1 % in leave-on products and up to 2 % in rinse-off products. Add it below 40 °C to the oil phase or with a solubiliser. Monoterpenes oxidise in air and the oxidation products can irritate skin, so work with fresh oil and add an antioxidant.
Compatibility and labelling
Cypress blends well with lemon, bergamot, juniper, lavender and cedarwood. Limonene is a labelled fragrance allergen in the EU.
