Frankincense Essential Oil is a steam-distilled aromatic ingredient obtained from the resin of Boswellia trees. It is valued for its distinctive combination of dry resin, pale woods, balsamic warmth, citrus freshness, and subtle spice.

Botanical Variation

Frankincense oil is not a single uniform material. Commercial products may be distilled from Boswellia sacra, Boswellia carterii, Boswellia serrata, Boswellia frereana, or another related botanical source.

Each origin has its own odor balance. Some grades are brighter and more lemon-like, while others are softer, warmer, earthier, or more balsamic. The exact botanical name and origin should therefore be confirmed from the batch documents.

Odor Description

The opening often contains fresh terpenic and citrus notes. These are followed by a dry, resinous heart with hints of pine, pepper, wood, and incense.

During dry-down, the oil may become warmer and more balsamic without developing the heavy sweetness associated with benzoin or vanilla. This makes frankincense useful as a bridge between fresh top notes and deeper woody materials.
