Building lightweight, non-greasy emulsions at production scale
MONTANOV L is a plant-derived self-emulsifying complex designed to create oil-in-water emulsions with an unusually light, almost weightless finish on the skin. This texture profile is exactly what manufacturers of sun care milks, deodorants, light body lotions and sensitive-skin formulas look for. The ingredient belongs to the Emulsifiers section, which brings together options for every texture level, from rich nourishing creams to thin, watery serums.
The 1 kg pack size is intended for studio and industrial manufacturing, giving formulators a large, consistent batch to work from across several production runs without recalculating the recipe each time raw material is purchased. The emulsifier is added to the oil phase and heated together with it to around 70-75 degrees Celsius, then combined with the water phase preheated to the same temperature. Once the phases are joined, the mixture should be homogenized and cooled gradually with continuous stirring, resulting in a uniform, lightweight emulsion that stays stable over the entire shelf life of the finished product. The typical usage rate ranges from 2 to 8 percent of the total formula weight, depending on the desired thickness and the amount of oils included.
MONTANOV L pairs well with a broad range of vegetable and synthetic oils, silicones, hydrophilic stabilizers, and most active ingredients including UV filters and antiperspirant complexes. When a thicker, more cream-like body is required, formulators often blend it with MONTANOV 202, while an alternative natural emulsifying system worth testing side by side is Natura Tec Plantsoft L. For formulas that call for a classic self-emulsifying wax with broader pH stability, Emulgade SE-PF is a common comparison point, and many production labs keep several emulsifier types on hand to quickly adapt a formula to seasonal demand.
Beyond personal care, similarly light emulsion systems are used in household hand-care products and in pharmaceutical topical bases, where fast absorption and a non-sticky finish matter most. The emulsifier also shows good tolerance to electrolytes, which is helpful in formulas containing mineral complexes or salts.
Store the product in a dry area at room temperature, in a tightly sealed container away from direct sunlight and excess moisture. Under these conditions the emulsifier retains its declared properties throughout the shelf life stated by the manufacturer.
Industrial-batch lightweight sun lotion base
Distilled water 820 ml
MONTANOV L 45 g
Sunflower oil 50 g
Coconut oil 35 g
Glycerin 25 g
Broad-spectrum preservative 8 g
Fragrance oil 5 g
Heat the water and oil phases separately to 72 degrees Celsius, dissolving the emulsifier in the oil phase along with the coconut oil. Combine both phases at matching temperatures and homogenize for five to seven minutes, then cool with continuous stirring down to 40 degrees before adding glycerin, preservative and fragrance. Pour the finished lotion into containers only after it has cooled completely to room temperature.
