Bringing Marine Actives Into Large-Scale Body Care Production
Fucus Extract Concentrate is derived from Fucus vesiculosus, a brown seaweed long valued for its rich content of polysaccharides, trace minerals, iodine, and natural antioxidant compounds. This concentrate belongs to the Extract Concentrates category, which brings together plant and seaweed derivatives for professional formulation work. The 1 liter format is built for manufacturers running continuous or high-volume batches - SPA product lines, contract cosmetic facilities, and firms producing firming or draining body care, where consistent supply and batch-to-batch reliability matter most.
Globally, fucus is most widely used in SPA and body care formulations: draining gels, wrap treatments, lotions targeted at skin prone to puffiness, and firming serums or masks for the face. Thanks to alginates and fucoidan, the extract supports skin firmness and contributes to the natural moisture retention processes in the upper layers of the skin. Beyond cosmetics, fucus finds use in food supplement manufacturing, functional food products, and certain household chemistry lines built around marine ingredients.
In formulation work, fucus pairs well with toning botanical actives. It is frequently combined with Hawthorn Extract (concentrate) to reinforce the toning effect in anti-puffiness and firmness-restoring products. For antioxidant serums and anti-aging lines, it is often paired with Grape Leaf Extract Concentrate, while for sensitive skin formulations, Cornflower Extract Concentrate makes a suitable complement.
A recommended usage rate for fucus in finished products ranges from 0.5 to 3 percent of total mass, depending on product type and the desired concentration of active compounds. The extract should be added at the final stage of production, in a cool or mildly warm phase, at temperatures not exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, to preserve the biological activity of the polysaccharides and minerals. Before incorporation, the base should be thoroughly mixed to ensure uniformity, avoiding prolonged heating. Store the concentrate in a tightly sealed container, in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and temperature fluctuations, to prevent oxidation of the active compounds.
During industrial-scale production, it is important to monitor the pH of the finished emulsion, as fucus is sensitive to strongly alkaline or acidic environments. It is compatible with most plant-derived emulsifiers and thickeners, as well as common preservatives used in aqueous phases.
Marine Firming Body Gel
Distilled water 720 ml
Xanthan gum thickener 14 g
Fucus Extract Concentrate 32 ml
Light plant oil 25 ml
Plant-based emulsifier 22 g
Broad-spectrum preservative 8 ml
Peppermint essential oil 5 ml
Disperse the xanthan gum gradually into the distilled water under constant stirring until a smooth, lump-free gel forms. Blend the plant oil with the emulsifier separately, then incorporate into the main gel base while mixing until the texture stabilizes. Once the mixture has cooled to room temperature, add the fucus extract concentrate, preservative, and peppermint oil, stirring gently until fully distributed. Transfer the finished gel into clean containers and allow it to rest for several hours to stabilize its structure before packaging.
