Brown Algae Extract for Firming and Anti-Cellulite Formulations
Bladderwrack, a brown seaweed long used in thalassotherapy, remains one of the key raw materials for SPA treatments and body care formulations worldwide. The extract is obtained by drawing out active compounds from the algae thallus, so the finished liquid retains polysaccharides, mineral salts, iodine and natural polyphenols valued mainly for supporting microcirculation and skin firmness. This ingredient belongs to the Liquid Extracts category, which brings together water-alcohol-glycerin extracts used across skincare, personal care and household chemistry.
The most common application of fucus extract is in anti-cellulite creams, gels and body wraps, where it helps support tissue tone and supports the removal of excess fluid from the skin. Beyond body care, the extract is used in facial lotions and serums for skin firming, masks for oily skin, and hair and scalp care products, where marine minerals work alongside botanical complexes. The 100 ml packaging suits home formulators and small trial batches perfectly, giving enough volume to test a cream, gel or tonic recipe before scaling up to larger production runs.
Fucus extract blends well with other botanical extracts. In toning and refreshing formulas it is often paired with mint extract, which adds a light cooling sensation and complements the firming effect. For calming formulations aimed at oily or problem skin, formulators often add sage extract, while body toning lotions sometimes combine fucus with wormwood extract to strengthen the overall toning action of the recipe.
The extract should be introduced at the final stage of production, in the cold phase, at a temperature no higher than 40 degrees Celsius, to preserve the activity of the natural compounds. A typical usage rate in finished products ranges from 3 to 7 percent of the total formula weight, though the exact concentration should be adjusted to the specific recipe and intended purpose. Store the extract in a tightly closed container, away from direct sunlight and heat, in a cool dark place, which helps maintain the stability of the composition throughout its shelf life.
