Crothix solid thickener for surfactant systems and viscosity control in cleansing formulations
Crothix in solid form is used as a thickening agent in surfactant-based formulations where controlled viscosity, texture stabilization, and uniform product structure are required. It is applied in shampoos, shower gels, liquid soaps, and cleansing systems, allowing adjustment of consistency without restructuring the base formula.
Description
Crothix in solid form is a derivative of plant-based fatty acids designed for use in surfactant systems. Unlike liquid versions, the solid form requires pre-dissolution or proper dispersion before incorporation into the formulation.
The ingredient functions as a viscosity modifier, enabling a wide range of textures from light fluid gels to more structured and dense systems.
Crothix is selected in formulation development where predictable thickening behavior, stable structure, and compatibility with mild surfactant bases are required.
Where it is used
In cosmetic formulations, Crothix is used in shampoos, shower gels, liquid soaps, and foaming cleansing products.
In hair care systems, it is applied to create a more controlled and structured texture.
In cleansing formulations, it is used to adjust viscosity while maintaining clarity and stability.
In manufacturing, it serves as a universal thickener for surfactant-based systems.
How it works
Crothix interacts with the micellar structure of surfactants, increasing internal structuring within the system and thereby raising viscosity.
It enhances intermolecular interactions, resulting in a thicker and more stable formulation.
It also improves sensory properties, contributing to a smoother and more uniform texture.
Behavior in formulation
Crothix in solid form requires pre-dissolution. It can be dissolved in a warm aqueous phase or pre-dispersed in a portion of surfactant.
Recommended dissolution temperature is 40–60°C with mixing until fully dissolved.
Once incorporated into the system, it gradually increases viscosity as it integrates into the surfactant structure.
It is compatible with anionic, amphoteric, and nonionic surfactants including Cocamidopropyl Betaine and mild cleansing bases.
Dosage
The level of use depends on the system composition and desired viscosity. It is recommended to add gradually while monitoring texture development. Exact usage levels are defined in technical specifications.
Recipe
Shower gel with controlled viscosity using Crothix
Ingredients:
Distilled water — 55 ml
Cocamidopropyl Betaine — 20 ml
Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate — 10 ml
Decyl Glucoside — 5 ml
Crothix solid — 1–2 g
Glycerin — 3 ml
Panthenol — 1 g
Lavender Essential Oil or fragrance — 0.3 ml
Phenoxyethanol preservative — 0.8 g
Process:
Pre-dissolve Crothix in a small portion of warm water or blend it with Cocamidopropyl Betaine at approximately 50°C until fully dissolved.
Separately combine the primary surfactants: Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, and Decyl Glucoside.
Add the dissolved Crothix into the system with mixing until uniform viscosity develops.
Introduce glycerin and panthenol and mix until homogeneous.
Add fragrance or Lavender Essential Oil and preservative, then perform final mixing.
Allow the formulation to stabilize before filling into containers.
Conclusion
Crothix in solid form is a thickening agent for surfactant systems in cosmetic formulations, providing viscosity control, structural stability, and compatibility with cleansing ingredients.
