Why Corn-Derived Resplanta MAIS Is a Go-To Active for Hair Repair Formulas
Resplanta MAIS is a plant-based protein obtained from corn through a gentle hydrolysis process, which preserves the biological activity of peptide fragments and amino acid chains. This ingredient belongs to the Cargill France SAS – Oils and Actives
category, featuring concentrated botanical extracts for professional cosmetic formulation. The 25 gram size is well suited for home labs, beginner formulators and small trial batches before scaling up to larger production runs.
The primary application of corn protein lies in haircare. Corn-derived peptide fragments show a pronounced repairing effect on damaged hair structure, penetrating the cortex and filling microscopic cracks in the cuticle that appear after chemical perming, coloring, or heat styling with flat irons and blow dryers. The ingredient is widely used in repair masks, conditioners, split-end serums and leave-in sprays across the professional and consumer haircare industry. Beyond hair, corn protein finds use in facial and body products: it supports skin barrier reinforcement, gives skin a firmer, smoother appearance, and functions as a component in anti-aging serums and creams.
In formulations, Resplanta MAIS is added during the final cold phase, at temperatures not exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, to prevent denaturation of the protein structures. Recommended dosage ranges from 1 to 5 percent of the total formula weight, depending on the desired intensity of effect. The ingredient pairs well with other proteins and amino acids, such as L Leucine, which further enhances the repairing action and strengthens the hair shaft from within. Corn protein also interacts nicely with natural sugars and moisturizing agents - for instance, when developing body scrubs and polishes, it can be combined with Brown Sugar, which provides mechanical exfoliation while the protein restores and nourishes the skin afterward.
Resplanta MAIS should be stored in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight, in a tightly sealed container to prevent oxidation and loss of activity. When working with small weighings, precise laboratory scales are essential, since this compact packaging is meant for gram and even milligram level dosing. For decorative cosmetic products and visually appealing transparent formulas, corn protein is sometimes combined with decorative inclusions such as Pink Shards, which add visual appeal without compromising the functional properties of the base formula.
Repair Serum for Damaged Hair
Distilled water 70 ml
Resplanta MAIS 3 g
L Leucine 1 g
Vegetable glycerin 5 ml
Broad spectrum preservative 1 ml
Mild emulsifier 2 g
Dissolve
glycerin in the water phase and warm the mixture to 40 degrees Celsius using a
water bath, then remove from heat and allow it to cool to room temperature.
Gradually add the corn protein and leucine into the cooled phase, stirring
thoroughly until fully dissolved without lumps. Finally, add the emulsifier and
preservative, mixing until the texture is smooth and even. Transfer the
finished serum into a glass dropper bottle and apply to damp hair after
washing, distributing from mid-lengths to ends.
