Why almond-based cleansing agents work well for sensitive skin formulas
This surfactant derived from sweet almond fatty components belongs to the category of Surfactants, which brings together gentle cleansing and foaming ingredients for skincare and haircare manufacturing. Extracted from almond oil through a mild processing method, this raw material retains a soft action on skin and hair without stripping natural oils or disrupting the protective barrier. Unlike harsh sulfate-based surfactants, this almond-derived cleansing agent falls into the mild surfactant family, offering gentle purification while still delivering enough foam for practical use in shampoos, shower gels, facial cleansers, and baby care products.
The primary application of this ingredient lies in personal care manufacturing: shampoos for sensitive scalp, intimate hygiene products, micellar water formulas, makeup removers, and baby cleansing products. Its mild foaming behavior also makes it a convenient choice in color cosmetics production, where a gentle cleanser is needed to remove long-wear makeup without irritating the eye area or mucous membranes. In household chemistry, similarly mild surfactants are used in gentle dish soap and delicate fabric wash formulas designed for sensitive skin.
When building a formula, this almond surfactant pairs well with other surface-active ingredients. Combining it with Lauryl Glucoside surfactant 100 g helps achieve denser, more stable foam while keeping the overall formula gentle, which matters for products that come into contact with mucous membranes. To adjust the pH of the finished product and reach the desired paste-like consistency, many formulators rely on Sodium Carbonate 50 g, which is also used for water softening in detergent recipes. When a smoother glide on skin and reduced static on hair after rinsing are needed, a silicone-based component such as Dimethicone Copolyol 25 g can be added, as it remains compatible with mild surfactants without weighing down the final texture.
This almond-derived surfactant should be introduced during the water phase mixing stage, at a temperature not exceeding 40-45 degrees Celsius, to avoid breaking down its active molecules. Typical dosage ranges from 5 to 15 percent of the total formula weight, depending on the desired foaming strength and intended use. The ingredient tolerates moderate heat reasonably well, but prolonged boiling or excessive temperatures reduce its cleansing efficiency. Store it in a tightly sealed container, in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, which helps maintain stability over an extended period.
The 25 gram packaging is well suited for home cosmetic making and small trial batches, allowing formulators to test a recipe before scaling up production. This size makes it easier to experiment with concentration levels and find the right balance with other ingredients before committing to a larger production run.
Gentle baby wash with almond surfactant
Distilled water 65 ml
Sweet Almond surfactant 6 ml
Lauryl Glucoside 4 ml
Sodium Carbonate 0.5 g
Glycerin 3 ml
Calendula extract 2 ml
Combine the water, glycerin, and calendula extract in a clean container and warm gently to about 35 degrees Celsius. Dissolve the sodium carbonate into the mixture, stirring until fully incorporated. Slowly add the almond surfactant along with the lauryl glucoside, stirring gently to avoid creating excess foam at this stage. Pour the finished wash into a pump bottle and let it rest for 24 hours before first use to allow the texture to settle.
