Recipe: Invigorating Sea Salt Cold Process Soap
Create a refreshing sea-scented bar of cold process soap that will transport you to the coast with every use. This recipe is designed to be gentle on the skin while providing a strong, clean scent.
Ingredients:
-
300 g Olive Oil
-
100 g Coconut Oil
-
100 g Shea Butter
-
67 g Sodium Hydroxide (Lye)
-
140 g Distilled Water
-
8-10 g Sea SPA Fragrance Oil (1-2% of the oil weight)
-
1 tbsp Fine Sea Salt (optional, for exfoliation)
Instructions for preparation:
Prepare the Lye Solution: Always work in a well-ventilated area with safety goggles and gloves. Slowly add the sodium hydroxide to the cold distilled water, stirring until it is fully dissolved. Set aside to cool to 45-50°C.
Melt the Oils: In a separate heat-safe bowl, melt the shea butter and coconut oil. Once melted, add the olive oil. Allow the oil mixture to cool to 45-50°C.
Create the Trace: When both the lye solution and oil mixture are at the same temperature, slowly pour the lye solution into the oils. Use a stick blender to mix in short bursts until a light "trace" is achieved (a consistency similar to a thin pudding).
Add Fragrance: At this point, add the Sea SPA Fragrance Oil and sea salt (if using). Stir well with a spatula to ensure an even distribution.
Pour and Insulate: Pour the soap batter into your mold. Cover the mold with a towel to insulate it and allow it to go through the gel phase. Let it sit for 24-48 hours.
Cut and Cure: After 24-48 hours, the soap should be firm enough to unmold and cut into bars. Place the bars on a drying rack in a cool, well-ventilated area for a 4-6 week curing period.
Recommendations for use:
-
Usage: The finished soap will have a rich lather and a clean, refreshing scent.
-
Safety: Always wear protective gear when working with sodium hydroxide (lye).
-
Storage: Store the finished soap in a dry place to help it last longer.
