A jelly-textured transparent base built for decorative fillings and layered designs
Crystal Jel in a 500 gram pack is a ready-to-melt base known for its dense, jelly-like consistency, popular among hobby crafters as well as makers of decorative candles, aromatic gels and novelty gifts. This size is well suited for home-based projects and trial batches, letting you test recipes, colors and fragrances without committing to a large volume of raw material. The product belongs to the Melt and Pour Soap Bases section, where various melt-and-pour formulas are gathered, making it easy to compare this jelly texture against more classic clear or opaque bases.
The main strength of Crystal Jel lies in its ability to suspend decorative inclusions such as dried fruit pieces, glitter, dried flowers or small ornamental elements evenly throughout the mass instead of letting them sink to the bottom of the mold. This makes it a favorite among makers of decorative cosmetic bars and gift items where visual presentation matters. Melting should be done gently over a double boiler or in a microwave at around 60-70 degrees Celsius, avoiding boiling, since overheating breaks down the gel structure and reduces clarity once it sets. Fragrances and colorants are best added around 50 degrees, after removing the base from heat, so volatile fragrance notes do not evaporate prematurely.
Typical fragrance dosage runs from 3 to 5 ml per 100 grams of base, while colorants should be added gradually until the desired shade is reached. This jelly texture pairs well with other base types in layered creations: a layer made with Crystal Vanilla Stable 11.5 kg provides a dense opaque contrast, while Crystal Shea 11.5kg adds a nourishing feel thanks to shea butter in the formula. Combining textures like this opens up creative multilayer designs with contrasting looks and finishes.
When unmolding, allow the piece to cool fully at room temperature before refrigerating, otherwise condensation can form on the surface and affect clarity. Keep the unopened package in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and heat sources, ideally not exceeding 25 degrees Celsius. Once opened, use the remaining base within a reasonable period and seal it tightly to protect it from moisture and dust.
For those wanting to expand their texture palette further, the Crystal OV olive 11.5 kg base with olive oil pairs nicely with the clear jelly layer in combined projects that call for both decorative and nourishing elements side by side.
Citrus jelly bar with suspended peel
Crystal Jel 180 g
Dried orange peel pieces 4 g
Citrus fragrance oil 7 ml
Orange liquid colorant 2 drops
Sweet almond oil 4 ml
Cut the base into cubes and melt it over a double boiler until fully liquid, keeping the temperature below boiling. Remove from heat, let it cool to about 50 degrees, then stir in the almond oil, colorant and fragrance until evenly blended. Place the dried orange peel pieces at the bottom of a silicone mold and pour the mixture slowly in a thin stream so the pieces stay suspended rather than clumping together. Let the bar set at room temperature for at least three hours before carefully removing it from the mold.
