Supporting the skin's internal water balance under environmental stress
Osmhydran LS 8453 belongs to the Moisturizing actives category, though it works differently from typical surface humectants by supporting the cell's own osmotic balance so skin can retain water even under stress. The 100 gram size is convenient for small studio batches and formulation trials before scaling production up to larger volumes.
The main field of use for this raw material is professional facial and body skincare: moisturizing creams, serums, emulsions, after sun products, and treatments applied after aggressive procedures such as peels or laser resurfacing. The active complex helps skin cells maintain internal hydration when exposed to cold, dry air, UV exposure, or mechanical stress, which is why it is frequently included in anti aging lines, formulas for sensitive and dehydrated skin, and recovery products used after dermatological treatments. Beyond skincare and color cosmetics, this type of osmoprotective ingredient is sometimes chosen by developers of professional spa treatments where a fast, visible skin response after application matters.
Osmhydran LS 8453 pairs well with other hydrating and soothing ingredients. Combined with Hygroplex, the hydrating effect is reinforced through two different mechanisms, surface and cellular. For formulas focused on skin firmness and wrinkle prevention, formulators often add Unireduce R-35, while for sensitive or irritated skin a good combination is Sepicalm VG, which helps calm discomfort and redness.
It is recommended to add this ingredient to the water phase during the cooling stage of an emulsion, at a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, to preserve the activity of the compound. A typical working dosage ranges from 2 to 5 percent of the total formula weight, though the exact amount should be adjusted to the specific formula and desired effect. Store the raw material in a tightly closed container, in a dry cool place away from direct sunlight, at room temperature, avoiding sudden changes in temperature and humidity.
Light hydrating facial gel cream for a small studio batch
Distilled water 68 ml
Glycerin 4 ml
Osmhydran LS 8453 4 g
Hygroplex 2 g
Xanthan gum 0.4 g
Jojoba oil 3 ml
Broad spectrum preservative 1 ml
Sprinkle
the xanthan gum gradually into the water while stirring continuously until a
smooth gel forms without lumps. Add the glycerin and jojoba oil, mixing
thoroughly until a light emulsion appears. Once the base has cooled to no more
than 40 degrees Celsius, blend in the Hygroplex until uniform, then add the
Osmhydran LS 8453 and the preservative with slow folding movements. Transfer
the finished gel cream into a clean jar and let it rest for 24 hours at room
temperature to allow the texture to stabilize before packaging or use.
