A Softer Way to Formulate Balms and Protective Creams
Natura Tec Vaselin B in a compact 20 gram size is a synthetic emollient created as a lighter alternative to traditional petroleum jelly, offering a smoother feel on skin without the heavy occlusive layer. This ingredient belongs to the category of emollients for cosmetics, which are responsible for softening skin texture, reducing moisture loss and improving the overall sensory profile of a finished product. The small 20 gram packaging is particularly suited for home formulators and small trial batches, allowing developers to test compatibility before committing to larger production volumes.
The most common application of this emollient is in body and face creams, lip balms, protective hand ointments for dry or cracked skin, and after-shave products. Unlike mineral petroleum jelly, Vaselin B spreads more easily, absorbs faster and leaves a less greasy finish, which makes it popular among manufacturers of baby care lines and formulations designed for sensitive skin types where lightweight texture matters as much as protection.
In a typical formulation, the emollient is added to the oil phase during heating, usually around 70-75 degrees Celsius, alongside other lipid ingredients. Recommended usage rates range from 3 to 10 percent of the total formula weight depending on the desired richness and barrier support. It pairs well with lightweight plant oils and complementary emollients such as Tegosoft P, which adds a silky slip and improves spreadability on skin. To reinforce the texture and stability of an emulsion, formulators often add myristyl myristate, which helps create a smoother, more consistent cream structure.
For formulas focused on restoring the skin's natural lipid barrier, this emollient can be combined with avocado phytosterols, a pairing frequently used in products for mature or very dry skin. Beyond cosmetics, vaseline-type emollients also find use in pharmaceutical ointment bases and in household technical greases, though the strongest global demand for this type of ingredient remains within the personal care industry.
The product should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, in a tightly sealed container to prevent oxidation and texture changes over time. Under proper storage conditions the emollient remains stable for an extended period, which is convenient for small studios and home-based cosmetic production.
