A gentler base formulation for sulfate-free skin cleansing bars
SLS Free Soap Base in a 1 kg pack is formulated for makers who want to avoid sodium lauryl sulfate, a foaming agent known to be harsher on skin with frequent water contact. This option belongs to the Melt and Pour Soap Bases category, which brings together different bases for melt-and-pour work, and it is particularly popular for baby-safe formulations, sensitive skin lines, and natural cosmetic brands that market themselves as sulfate-free.
The 1 kg size is well suited for home crafting, small experimental batches, and testing new formulas before scaling up production. The base melts smoothly in a double boiler or microwave at roughly 60-70 degrees Celsius, and it should never be brought to a boil, since overheating breaks down the texture and creates a dense film on the surface. Once melted, carrier and essential oils can be blended in at around 3-5 g per 100 g of base, along with cosmetic pigments, glitter, and fragrance oils dosed at 2-3 drops per 100 g, plus dried herbs, coffee grounds, or oatmeal for a mild exfoliating texture. Active additives such as extracts, vitamins, and hydrosols are best added below 50 degrees to protect their properties.
For scaling a formula toward larger production runs, this pack pairs naturally with bigger bases from the same line: studio-scale batches often move to Transparent Soap Base Palm Free 12 kg, while full conveyor-scale manufacturing typically relies on Transparent Soap Base Palm Free 46 kg. Brands wanting to expand a sulfate-free lineup with a lighter, wax-free texture can also consider WSLS Free Soap Base 1 kg, which removes wax-like components from the formula entirely.
Store the base in a dry place at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture, tightly sealed to keep its texture and workability throughout the shelf life. Once opened, it is best used within a few months, cutting off portions as needed and wrapping the remainder in film.
Chamomile and shea gentle bar

Shea butter - 10 g
Chamomile extract liquid - 6 g
Oatmeal fine ground - 5 g
Lavender essential oil - 4 drops
Cut
the base into small cubes and melt in a double boiler until fully liquid,
avoiding boiling. Remove from heat, stir in the shea butter and chamomile
extract until smooth. Let the mixture cool to about 50-55 degrees, then add the
oatmeal and lavender oil, stirring gently to distribute evenly. Pour into
molds, tap lightly to release air bubbles, and leave at room temperature for
3-4 hours until fully set before unmolding.
