Why Tahitian Gardenia-Infused Coconut Oil Suits Studio Skincare Production
Monoi de Tahiti is a traditional infused oil made by macerating Tahitian gardenia flowers (tiare) in refined coconut oil. This product belongs to the category of Natural Macerates, where a carrier oil is enriched with the active compounds and aromatic molecules of botanical material without any chemical extraction involved. The 1 kg packaging is intended for studio-scale and small-batch cosmetic production, giving formulators and small brands a reliable, consistent supply without committing to industrial drum quantities.
The primary global demand for this oil comes from skin and hair care, spa treatments, and after-sun recovery products. The Polynesian tradition of using tiare-infused coconut oil spans centuries: island communities relied on it to protect skin from drying out under tropical sun exposure, to keep body skin supple and soft, and to condition hair, smoothing split ends and adding natural shine. In modern manufacturing the oil is widely used in body creams, after-sun balms, massage oils, hair conditioners and masks, solid and liquid shower products, and it also finds a niche place in perfumery as a base note carrier for floral-waxy fragrance compositions.
This oil blends well with other macerates in the same product line. For hydrating and restorative formulations, it pairs naturally with Aloe Vera Macerate BIO, which adds soothing properties and a lighter texture to the final blend. For brightening or refreshing formulas, a small addition of Lemon Macerate can complement the composition and support an even skin tone. For products targeting tired or stressed skin, combining it with Laurel Leaf Macerate, known for its toning qualities, is a common approach among small manufacturers.
In formulations, this oil is typically added at the cooling stage, once the base emulsion or oil phase has dropped below 40-45 degrees Celsius, to preserve the volatile aromatic compounds and active constituents from the gardenia flowers. Recommended dosage ranges from 5 to 30 percent of the total oil phase, depending on the desired consistency and product type: lighter lotions require a smaller fraction, while richer balms and solid oils can carry a higher percentage. When used undiluted as a body or hair oil, it can be applied directly without further blending.
Store the product in a tightly sealed container, away from direct sunlight and heat sources, in a cool dark place, which helps maintain oil stability and preserve its characteristic floral aroma throughout the shelf life. Once opened, it is best used within a reasonable period, minimizing exposure to air and moisture.
