The pigment should be added at the final stage, once the base has cooled to no more than 60-70 degrees Celsius, to protect the pearlescent coating from thermal breakdown. Pre-dispersing the mica in a small amount of carrier oil or glycerin before mixing it into the main batch helps avoid clumping and gives a smoother, more even color throughout.
