Pecan Nut Oil plant derived carrier oil for cosmetic formulations and lipid phase systems
Pecan Nut Oil is a vegetable oil obtained from the kernels of Carya illinoinensis and used in cosmetic and formulation systems as a lipid phase component. INCI Carya Illinoinensis Seed Oil. The oil is widely used in skin care hair care and spa applications due to its balanced fatty acid profile and good compatibility with skin and hair. Global demand is concentrated in natural cosmetics body care oils and conditioning formulations.
What it is and where it is used
Pecan Nut Oil is used in formulations where a smooth spreading lipid phase is required with a light to medium skin feel. Typical applications include creams serums body oils hair oils and massage blends.
The ingredient is selected in formulations where improved glide and sensory performance are needed without heavy residue. In hair care systems it is used in oil blends and conditioning formulations. In spa applications it serves as a base oil for massage systems.
How it works
Pecan Nut Oil spreads across the skin surface forming a thin lipid layer. Due to its fatty acid composition it integrates into the oil phase and supports even distribution.
It reduces the feeling of dryness and improves slip during application. In formulations it functions as an emollient and as a carrier for oil soluble ingredients.
Properties
Pecan Nut Oil has a light to medium texture and absorbs relatively well into the skin. It improves spreadability and enhances sensory characteristics of the formulation.
It is compatible with other vegetable oils esters and oil soluble actives. It remains stable in emulsions and oil systems when supported with antioxidants.
Applications across industries
In cosmetics it is used in creams serums body oils and hair care products. In skin care it functions as a lipid phase component.
In spa applications it is used in massage oils. In natural cosmetic formulations it serves as a plant based carrier oil. In product development it acts as an emollient and structural component of the oil phase.
Behavior in formulation
Pecan Nut Oil is insoluble in water and is incorporated into the oil phase. It blends easily with other oils and emollients.
In emulsions it requires emulsifiers to form stable systems. In anhydrous formulations it can be used as a base oil or as part of oil blends.
How to use
The oil is added to the oil phase and heated if required for emulsification. In cold process formulations it can be added at room temperature.
It integrates easily with most cosmetic ingredients and does not require complex processing.
Recommended usage level
Typical usage ranges from 2 percent to 100 percent depending on the product type.
In emulsions it is used as part of the oil phase while in oil blends it can serve as a primary base.
Formulation example
Lightweight nourishing body oil blend
Pecan Nut Oil — 500 ml
Caprylic Capric Triglyceride — 300 ml
Jojoba Oil — 150 ml
Tocopherol — 10 ml
Warm Nut Fragrance Oil — 5 ml
Processing
All ingredients are combined at room temperature and mixed until fully uniform. Tocopherol is included to improve oxidative stability.
Warm Nut Fragrance Oil is then added and the system is mixed until evenly distributed.
Important considerations
Pecan Nut Oil is prone to oxidation and requires the use of antioxidants to maintain stability.
Proper storage conditions away from light and heat are recommended. Formulation design should consider compatibility with other oil phase components and long term stability of the system.
