A Lightweight Ester Building Block for Silky Formulas and Studio Batches
Esther is a synthetic ester valued for its lightweight, fast-spreading texture in skin and hair care formulations. It plays a central role in the personal care industry, where formulators rely on it to reduce greasy after-feel in creams, lotions, serums and hair conditioners. This makes it a popular choice for facial emulsions, body lotions, sun care products, and even color cosmetics such as foundations and bb creams, where a smooth, slip-friendly texture on the skin is essential. As part of the Emollients for Cosmetics range, this ester belongs to a group of ingredients responsible for softening, smoothing and delivering a pleasant sensory finish after application.
The 1 kg package size is aimed primarily at studio and small-batch manufacturers - labs, indie brands and workshops that need a reliable, repeatable supply without committing to large industrial drums. This volume is convenient for finalizing formulas before scaling up production and for running regular mid-size batches. The ester is typically added to the oil phase at 60 to 75 degrees Celsius alongside other oils and emollients, then cooled and combined with the water phase during emulsification. Usage levels in most formulations range from 3 to 10 percent of the total batch weight, depending on the desired lightness and the intended finish of the product.
This ester blends well with other softening and texturizing oils, allowing formulators to balance heavier and lighter emollients within the same recipe. For instance, pairing it with Cetiol Sensoft adds a velvety, matte finish to the final product. For barrier-repair formulations, combining it with the Activ Bio Blend is a common approach, while a more pronounced dry-touch sensation after absorption can be achieved by adding Sensolene to the recipe. This combination is frequently used in premium facial creams and lightweight summer emulsions.
Beyond skin and hair care, this type of ester is also found in shaving products, lip balms and select household chemical formulations, where a slippery, non-greasy texture is needed. In candle and fragrance manufacturing, similar esters are sometimes used to improve the distribution of scent compounds within a base. Store the ingredient in a tightly sealed container, in a dry area at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat sources, to maintain its stability throughout the shelf life.
