Why PG20 Supports Consistent Industrial Emulsion Batches
Emulsifier EMULPHARMA PG20 in a 1 liter pack is built for manufacturers who need repeatable results batch after batch when scaling up cosmetic emulsions. This raw material belongs to the Emulsifiers section, which brings together ingredients for stable oil-in-water and water-in-oil systems used well beyond skincare, including technical creams, household chemical formulations and certain topical pharmaceutical bases. The liter format suits labs, small cosmetic workshops and manufacturers who work with larger emulsion volumes and need consistent texture across every production run.
The main strength of PG20 lies in forming reverse water-in-oil emulsions and lipid-stable systems that resist temperature shifts, electrolytes and long-term storage without breaking down. These qualities make the emulsifier popular in sun protection products, dense nourishing creams, body balms and water-resistant formulas that need to keep their texture after contact with water. In industrial chemistry, similar emulsifiers are also used in protective creams, technical pastes and household chemical products where a stable dispersion of the oil phase is required.
The emulsifier is added during the oil phase mixing stage, typically at 70 to 80 degrees Celsius, together with waxes, oils and lipid-based thickeners. A typical dosage ranges from 2 to 6 percent of the total formula weight, depending on the desired viscosity and water phase content. Once introduced, the oil and water phases are combined at similar temperatures, homogenized until uniform, and then slowly cooled under continuous stirring to stabilize the emulsifier's crystalline structure.
PG20 pairs well with other emulsifying systems, giving formulators flexibility to fine-tune texture and stability. Combining it with EASYNOV Emulsifier helps produce lighter, fast-absorbing oil-in-water emulsions when a formula calls for both dispersion types. Pairing it with Emulsifier Imwitor 372 P strengthens stability in formulas with high oil and wax content, which is especially useful for dense balms and protective creams. PG20 also works reasonably well alongside Emulpharma IXL 30 g, letting technologists adjust viscosity and skin feel without reworking the entire base formula.
When working with this material, keep in mind that overheating the oil phase beyond recommended values can reduce emulsifying activity, so temperature control during melting and mixing is critical for batch stability. Store the emulsifier in a tightly closed container, in a dry space at room temperature, away from direct heat and moisture, which preserves its physical properties throughout the shelf life. For industrial batches, it is also worth pre-checking compatibility with active ingredients, particularly acidic additives or formulas with high electrolyte content in the water phase.
Dense water-resistant body cream built on PG20
Distilled water 620 ml
Shea butter 90 g
Jojoba oil 60 g
Emulsifier EMULPHARMA PG20 45 g
Beeswax 30 g
Glycerin 40 g
Preservative 8 g
Fragrance 7 g
Heat the oil phase containing the wax, oils and emulsifier to 75 degrees until fully melted, and warm the water phase with glycerin separately to the same temperature. Combine the two phases, homogenize with a mixer for five minutes, then cool under slow continuous stirring down to 40 degrees, add the preservative and fragrance, mix for another two minutes and pour into containers.
