Why Melissa Water Suits Large-Batch Cosmetic Manufacturing
Melissa hydrosol is a water-based distillate obtained through steam distillation of fresh lemon balm herb, and it belongs to the category of Hydrosols and Floral Waters, which brings together aromatic plant waters used across cosmetic, pharmaceutical and food production. The 1 liter format is intended for cosmetic labs, small production lines and studios that need a consistent supply of raw material with stable properties batch after batch, rather than a small trial portion.
The primary application of melissa hydrosol is skin and body care: toners, lotions, micellar formulas, cream emulsions, aftershave gels and products designed for sensitive or redness-prone skin. Lemon balm is traditionally valued for its refreshing and calming action on skin, so the hydrosol is commonly introduced into the water phase of emulsions in place of plain water at a dosage of roughly 30 to 90 percent of the total formula volume. Beyond cosmetics, melissa hydrosol is widely used in aromatherapy as a gentler alternative to essential oil for room misting, in the production of natural air fresheners and textile sprays, and as a flavoring addition in beverages, desserts and confectionery where plant distillates are permitted ingredients.
In formulations, this hydrosol pairs well with glycerin, panthenol, aloe and centella extracts, as well as with other floral waters - for example, combining it with Lavender Hydrosol produces a calming toning blend, while pairing it with Lime Hydrosol gives a brighter citrus lift suited for daytime toners. For products targeting irritated or reactive skin, melissa hydrosol is frequently blended with Celandine Hydrosol to create combined lotions for problem-prone skin.
The hydrosol should be introduced during preparation of the water phase at a temperature no higher than 40 degrees Celsius to preserve its volatile aromatic compounds, or added cold into finished formulas right before the preservative and active ingredients. Store the product tightly sealed in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, and avoid prolonged air exposure once opened, so the fragrance and functional properties remain stable throughout the shelf life of the larger 1 liter format.
