Amazonian vine-bark distillate built for consistent skincare batches
Cat's Claw Hydrosol in a 1 liter volume is produced by steam distillation of the bark and shoots of the Uncaria tomentosa vine, native to tropical regions of South America. This raw material belongs to the category of Hydrosols and Floral Waters, which brings together aromatic plant distillates widely used across the cosmetic industry as a gentle substitute for plain water in formulations. The one liter size suits small studio operations and semi-industrial workshops alike, giving formulators enough material for pilot batches of creams, toners and serums while also supporting steady supply for labs that need consistent volumes between production runs.
The primary global application of cat's claw hydrosol lies in anti-aging and restorative skincare manufacturing. The plant is known for a notable content of polyphenols and alkaloids with antioxidant activity, which makes the distillate popular in serums targeting mature skin, firming creams, and formulas designed for sensitive or redness-prone complexions. To a lesser extent it appears in hair and scalp sprays, valued for its ability to calm irritation and support a balanced scalp environment. Another common use is in toning masks and post-treatment lotions applied after procedures that compromise the skin barrier, where a mild restorative water without harsh additives is preferred over stronger actives.
The hydrosol is typically added at the final production stage, during the cool-down phase, at temperatures not exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, to preserve its volatile and heat-sensitive compounds. Recommended usage in finished formulas ranges from 40 to 80 percent of the total water phase, depending on the concentration of other active ingredients in the recipe. It pairs well with plant oils, natural polysaccharide-based gelling agents, and other hydrosols — for instance, it can be blended with Rose Hydrosol to build a more complex restorative profile, or combined with gentle Oats Hydrosol when a stronger soothing effect is needed for reactive skin products. For formulas with a lighter fruity note, Strawberry Hydrosol works well as a partner, often chosen for toning products aimed at younger skin.
Since hydrosols contain no alcohol or synthetic stabilizers, storage conditions must be respected closely: keep the container tightly sealed, in a dark and cool location away from direct sunlight and heat sources, ideally between 4 and 20 degrees Celsius. Once opened, the product should be used within a few months, and for larger production batches refrigerated storage is advisable to reduce the risk of microbial contamination. When working with the one liter bottle on a production floor, it is practical to decant a working portion into a smaller container and keep the main bottle sealed until the next use.
Firming Toner for Mature Skin
Cat's Claw Hydrosol 250 ml
Rose Hydrosol 30 ml
Vegetable glycerin 15 ml
Liquid panthenol 5 ml
Broad-spectrum preservative 6 ml
Distilled water up to 500 ml
Measure
the cat's claw hydrosol and rose hydrosol into a graduated container, add the
glycerin and mix thoroughly until uniform. Blend in the panthenol, then top up
with distilled water to the 500 ml mark, add the preservative and stir the
mixture for about two minutes. Pour the finished toner into spray bottles and
let it rest for 24 hours before use to allow the formula to stabilize.
