Emulsan is a nonionic emulsifier based on methyl glucose derivative and stearic acid with INCI Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate. The material appears as solid flakes or plates with cream to light beige color. The ingredient is incorporated into the oil phase where it melts during heating and forms stable oil in water emulsions. Emulsan is compatible with plant oils waxes fatty alcohols and a wide range of cosmetic active ingredients. Emulsan shea butter and cetyl alcohol are combined with the plant oils and heated until the oil phase melts completely. In a separate vessel purified water and glycerin are heated. When both phases reach similar temperature the oil phase is incorporated into the aqueous phase with continuous mixing to form an emulsion. During the cooling stage panthenol is added and mixing continues until evenly distributed. In the final stage the preservative system is incorporated and pH is adjusted to the typical range used for cosmetic emulsions. The result is a stable cream with smooth texture.
