Rosalina Essential Oil in a 1 L Container
Rosalina is Melaleuca ericifolia, a shrub or small tree of the paperbark genus, known in English as Swamp paperbark. The oil is steam distilled from the leaves and twigs. The product card gives the INCI name Melaleuca Ericifolia Oil, the synonyms Rosalina and Tea tree rosalina, India as the country of production and a 1 L container.
How it differs from tea tree
Although the plants are related, their oils are not interchangeable. Rosalina is typically dominated by linalool and 1,8-cineole, while classic tea tree oil is built around terpinen-4-ol. As a result rosalina smells gentler, fresh and slightly floral with a lemony touch, without tea tree’s sharp medicinal edge. Check the certificate of analysis for the exact profile of this lot.
Applications
Skin care
Creams, toners and gels that need a fresh but soft scent, including products for combination skin.
Hair care
Shampoos and conditioners with a clean herbal-floral note.
Ambient fragrance
Diffuser blends and linen sprays.
Usage guidance
In leave-on products rosalina is used at 0.5 to 1 %, and rinse-off products can take up to 2 %. Add it below 40 °C, with a solubiliser when the system is water based. Linalool oxidises in air, so opened containers should be used promptly.
Compatibility and labelling
Rosalina pairs well with lavender, lemon, bergamot, cypress and fir. Linalool is on the EU list of fragrance allergens that must be named on the label above the set thresholds.
Product data
The botanical source of this oil is Melaleuca ericifolia, listed under the INCI name Melaleuca Ericifolia Oil. Its synonyms are Swamp paperbark, Rosalina and Tea tree rosalina. India is the country of production, and the oil is packed in a 1 L container.
Example: gentle body wash, 1000 g
This 1000 g wash combines 640 g of distilled water with 150 g of sodium cocoyl isethionate solution, 100 g of coco glucoside, 60 g of cocamidopropyl betaine and 25 g of glycerin. The 5 g of rosalina essential oil is premixed with 8 g of polysorbate 20. To finish, add 7 g of preservative for rinse-off products and thicken with 5 g of xanthan gum.
Disperse the xanthan in glycerin and add it to the water. Stir in the surfactants slowly to avoid foaming. Premix the rosalina oil with polysorbate 20, add it to the base, then the preservative. Adjust the pH to around 5.5. Rosalina level: 0.5 %.
Storage and related sizes
Keep the container closed in a cool, unlit storeroom. For trials there is rosalina oil 100 ml; surfactants for washes are in the surfactants section.
