Product Description

Ceramide Lotion: The Essential Building Block for Skin Barrier Repair

Introducing Ceramide Lotion, a high-quality lipid complex from South Korea designed to mimic the skin's natural lipid barrier. This milky white to slightly creamy lotion-like emulsion is a powerful active ingredient for fortifying and restoring the skin. By providing a blend of key lipids like ceramide NP, cholesterol, and phytosphingosine, it directly addresses the root causes of skin dryness, irritation, and premature aging. Its unique composition makes it an ideal choice for a wide range of cosmetic applications, from everyday skincare to specialized derma-cosmetics.

Product Description and Key Features

Ceramide Lotion (also known as Ceramide Emulsion or Multiceramide Complex) is a lamellar liquid concentrate that replenishes the lipids naturally found in the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the skin. This lipid matrix is crucial for maintaining a healthy skin barrier, preventing transepidermal water loss (TEWL), and protecting the skin from environmental stressors. Its advanced formulation ensures easy integration into your products, dispersing readily in water and partially in glycols.

Key properties and benefits:

  • Skin Barrier Restoration: Actively repairs and strengthens the skin’s lipid barrier, which is essential for healthy, resilient skin.

  • Intense Hydration: Prevents moisture loss, keeping the skin hydrated, plump, and supple.

  • Anti-aging Care: Helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by restoring the skin's natural firmness and elasticity.

  • Soothes Irritation: Calms and reduces redness and irritation, making it perfect for sensitive skin.

  • Improves Skin Texture: Regular use leads to a smoother, more refined skin surface.

  • Versatile and Compatible: It is highly compatible with other skincare actives and can be added to the cool-down phase of your formulations.

Applications and Usage Areas

Ceramide Lotion is a cornerstone ingredient for formulating effective and soothing skincare products for a global market.

Daily Skincare:

  • Serums, Creams, and Lotions: The primary application for ceramide lotion is in daily moisturizers and hydrating serums. Its restorative properties make it a must-have for anti-aging and sensitive skin lines.

Specialized Care:

  • Post-Sun Care and After-Procedure Creams: Provides excellent soothing and repairing benefits for skin exposed to the sun or recovering from procedures like peels, microdermabrasion, or laser treatments.

  • Derma-cosmetics and Pharmacy Brands: Its proven efficacy in restoring the skin barrier makes it a staple in derma-cosmetics and products for conditions like eczema and dermatitis.

  • Products for Newborns: Its gentle, barrier-fortifying properties make it exceptionally safe and effective for delicate baby skin.

  • Scalp Care: Can be added to lotions or leave-in treatments for a dry, irritated scalp, helping to restore the skin barrier there as well.

Premium and Healing Products:

  • Premium Formulations: Elevate your premium skincare line with this luxurious and highly effective active.

  • Healing Creams: Used in creams designed to aid in the healing of minor skin abrasions, cracks, and severe dryness.

Recommended Dosage:

  • For general cosmetics: 1–5%

  • For derma-cosmetics and intensive treatments: up to 10%

  • For sensitive and baby skin products: 1–3%

Recipe: Restorative Ceramide Face Cream

Create a rich, protective face cream that helps repair the skin barrier and provides lasting hydration, ideal for dry or sensitive skin types.

Ingredients:

  • 65 g Distilled Water (Water Phase)

  • 10 g Shea Butter (Oil Phase)

  • 8 g Jojoba Oil (Oil Phase)

  • 6 g Emulsifying Wax (e.g., Olivem 1000) (Oil Phase)

  • 5 g Ceramide Lotion (Active Phase)

  • 4 g Glycerin (Water Phase)

  • 1 g Preservative (e.g., Geogard 221)

Instructions for preparation: Prepare the Phases: In one heat-resistant beaker, combine all ingredients for the oil phase. In a second beaker, combine the water phase ingredients.

Heat the Phases: Gently heat both beakers in a double boiler to approximately 75°C, stirring until the emulsifying wax and shea butter are completely melted.

Emulsify: Slowly pour the hot water phase into the hot oil phase while continuously stirring with a stick blender. Blend in short bursts until a smooth, thick emulsion forms.

Cool Down: Transfer the beaker to a cold water bath and continue stirring until the emulsion cools to below 40°C. The mixture will continue to thicken as it cools.

Add the Active: Once the cream has cooled, add the Ceramide Lotion and the preservative. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly dispersed.

Pour and Store: Transfer the finished cream into a clean, sterilized jar or an airless pump bottle.

Recommendations:

  • Dosage: This recipe uses a 5% concentration of Ceramide Lotion, which is highly effective for barrier repair. You can adjust this dosage based on your product's specific goals.

  • Mixing: Ensure the Ceramide Lotion is added to the cool-down phase of the cream. This prevents high heat from potentially compromising the integrity of its lipid structure.

  • Consistency: The cream will thicken as it cools. For a lighter lotion, you can reduce the amount of oil phase ingredients and emulsifying wax.

  • Storage: Store the final product in a cool, dark place. The preservative will ensure a stable shelf life.
