Properties	BIO-CERAMIDYL is a natural, highly purified, concentrated monogalactosyl-ceramide (glycoceramide), similar to human epidermal ceramides, containing a certain amount of cholesterol and phospholipids (glycosphingolipids 65%, phospholipids 25 and chole after various damages. In the living parts of the epidermis (basal layer and spinosum layer) contains the same amount of glycoceramides as free sterols or ceramides in combination with phospholipids, forming a polar complex, and vice versa, the stratum corneum is dominated by ceramides and significantly less glycoceramides. There is a predominant amount of free fatty acids, forming the stratum corneum without polarity. Barrier function depends on lamellar lipids, which retain water and prevent excess TEWL. At the hair level, BIO-CERAMIDYL is similar in nature and functionality to the structuring lipids of hair and scalp. Intrinsic lipids form intercellular cement, participating in the adhesion of hair corneocytes. A deficiency of structural lipids makes hair dry, dull and porous.
