Keeping soap bars flexible instead of brittle and rancid

A soap antioxidant plasticizer in a 1 liter pack addresses two practical problems that soap makers and small workshops face regularly: fatty oils turning rancid over time and finished bars losing flexibility and cracking during cutting or curing. This product belongs to the Antioxidants category, which brings together substances that slow down oxidation in oils and fats. Unlike general-purpose antioxidants formulated for creams and emulsions, this one is designed to remain active in an alkaline environment and survive the full saponification and curing cycle without losing effectiveness.

Rancidity in soap bars is caused mainly by oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids present in vegetable oils, which leads to unpleasant odor and orange spotting after a few months of storage. The antioxidant neutralizes free radicals and significantly slows this reaction, keeping the bar fresh and visually appealing for much longer. Its second role is plasticizing the bar structure. Hard oils rich in palmitic and stearic acid often produce a brittle, crumbly bar, and the plasticizer makes the texture more elastic, reduces cracking during cutting and storage, and improves how fragrance oils and lather boosters distribute through the mass.

The recommended dosage is between 0.3 and 1.5 percent of the total fat phase, added while oils are being blended, before combining with the lye solution. The compound tolerates heating up to around 70 degrees Celsius, so it works equally well in cold and hot process soap making. For oils high in linoleic acid, pairing it with Rona Oxynex ST Liquid reinforces oxidative stability, while adding Coenzyme Q10 Liquid introduces an additional antioxidant complex beneficial for skin-nourishing bars. When extra moisture retention is needed in the formula, a small amount of Hydronesis can be included without affecting the plasticizer's stability.

The 1 liter size fits small manufacturing lines and studio-scale production running batches from several dozen to a few hundred kilograms per month, giving workshops a stable supply without frequent small reorders. Store the product tightly sealed, away from direct sunlight and temperature fluctuations, at room temperature, to preserve its activity for the full shelf life.

Beyond classic soap making, similar antioxidant plasticizers are sometimes used in solid balm formulations and candle blends based on vegetable waxes, where slowing down fat oxidation is equally valuable.

Lavender essential oil 14 ml

Melt the oils together and cool to 45 degrees Celsius, then blend in the antioxidant plasticizer until fully incorporated. Prepare the lye solution separately, cool it to the same temperature, combine with the oils, and stick blend to a light trace. Add the essential oil at the end, pour into molds, and let the bars cure in a cool, dark place for at least four weeks before use.
